Student Answering Questions

I think it should be fine with just your name on it. Even with the ID number Financial Services always messes it up. My family lives abroad and has to wire my tuition every semester and every single semester Financial Services has messed it up, literally every single semester. So annoying. I would go ahead and send it with just your name and call to confirm a few days later.

Hey Pink: I think you’re not terribly into sports but it’s coming down to the wire for my son and so maybe you could ask around a bit and help us with this question: How prevalent are pick up games of basketball at Wake? Are there gyms open and available for this? He’ll for sure play intramural bb, but he also wants a school where he could count on finding pick up games throughout the year. When he visited a couple weeks ago, he was disappointed with the size of the weight room, so a basketball outlet is all the more important. THANKS!

smbsmom, thought this was funny when I read your post. I called my son tonight about something and there was all this noise in the background. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was playing basketball. This is the second time that I have caught him in the middle of a game when I have called him at random times so obviously there are pick up games (he loves sports but was never really into playing basketball all that much but who knows now!) Lots of active, athletic kids at Wake so I am sure your son will find lots of outlets for his interests. I may be imagining this but I think that Wake is getting a new fitness center sometime in the near future. Currents students (pinkcupcake where are you) could comment on this though. But for the kid who is a sports lover, Wake is a great place.

Hi! The boys on my floor play pick up games at least twice a week and they all do intramurals, too. I will ask tomorrow where exactly they play because I’m not 100% sure. I will also find out the answer to the baseball questions while I’m over there. It’s been hard to catch them around lately – with finals quickly approaching, everyone in the in library or the academic buildings studying so I’ve just really been with the girls on my hall reading  I’ll attempt to find out tomorrow though since decision day is upon you all! I am absolutely certain that pick up games happen though … the boys on my floor were actually yelled at for bouncing basketballs in our lounge and disturbing the floor below us, hahaha. I promise I’ll have this response up by tomorrow!

The weight room is a little small but we’re building a new one! Yay!

“(pinkcupcake where are you)”

Sorry, love. I haven’t checked CC in a day or two but I’m absolutely here to answer questions :)

"hey pink, i’m about to send the deposit via wire transfer from overseas…but from WFU’s website it says

In order to identify where wire proceeds are to be applied, please include the following information:

Full Name of Student
Student ID Number

i don’t have a Student ID Number…and i can’t ask any admission officer about it because it’s the weekend…do you know anything about this? can you ask around? May 1st is coming T_T"

I’m sorry it took me so long to get back to this! I’d go with scarletleavy on this one – I don’t really know exactly what to do in this situation and I’m not sure who to ask about it. I’d send it the way scarlet says, and then called tomorrow and tell them that that’s how you sound it (unless you didn’t send it yet, in which case call tomorrow and ask what to do) & then call and confirm its arrival a few days later. I’m sure it’ll be fine!

Wow! this thread is already 10 pages long, and it only started 1 month and 4 days ago! nice work guys! especially pinkcupcake14  i’m sure this will be really helpful for future applicants

Merci! I’m glad it got so many responses because the Wake board when I applied was rather quiet. Thanks to everyone for asking so many great questions.

I’ll be checking this board daily until May 1st (when my finals start and when your deposits are due) and from then on I’ll check it once every week or so to see if ya’ll have any questions regarding housing, moving in, student life, etc, so don’t be afraid to ask!

Aww, rats. No quidditch. :frowning: ;)

It turns out, I will be attending  does the deposit have to be recieved by or post marked May 1?

Well it’s great to hear you are attending - I guess the fin aid pkg worked out after all? I would suggest mailing the deposit asap and also e-mailing admissions to let them know you have accepted and have sent in the deposit - just to be on the safe side.

Hey! I’m sitting here with my friend who plays basketball a lot and this is what he has to say:

People play a lot of pick up games, but we have a pretty old rec center and there three gyms in it for playing games. The competition varies from game to game, and unfortunately there isn’t always gym space to play games, however the gym is most packed during intramural basketball season so it’s not really a huge problem if you’re on an intramural team anyway. Other than this season, there are always games being played. On our hall, a bunch of boys play so they get a couple of them together to go to the gym and there are usually other people already there willing to play random games.

I hope this helps! Please write back if you have any other questions.

Club baseball questions answered! Special thanks to TC (friend from my dorm) who spent a lot of time writing these out for me :)

“When are tryouts held for club baseball, if there are any?”

Tryouts will be announced. Last semester they fell relatively early in the school year, probably within the first three weeks.

“hello! i saw a question about club baseball and i am very interested about playing it at wake (if i do not walk on - might as well try). I really don’t want to miss the tryout when i get to campus so i was wondering if you could provide me some information about it. i saw that you posted that there is a club baseball player on your floor and that you were going to get information about it. hopefully i’m not being bothersome! thank you!!!”

(PS - you are absolutely being in no way, shape, or form bothersome! <3 - Pink)
If you have an active interest in club baseball it is virtually impossible to miss either announcements or other notifications about tryouts. Tryouts were probably within the first three weeks of the school year last semester. The way it is set up is essentially the first two or three practices are “tryouts.” You’ll take infield-outfield, batting practice, and anyone that is interested in pitching can throw a bullpen. Last semester around 40-50 people showed up the first day, but normally this number always decreases immediately after other players judge the talent level of prospective players. Once tryouts are over there will be a list emailed out of those that made the team essentially. In the fall season this doesn’t mean much as you mostly just practice and occasionally scrimmage other schools on the weekends. But anyone on this list is invited to come back to practices, which normally take place twice a week between the hours of 4-6, so it shouldn’t interfere with class. During the fall club baseball is really relaxed and not strict regarding coming to practice and it really is not as competitive as it would seem. In the spring season, however, the initial list of team members is shaved down slightly as the official club season has roster requirements. It’s a significantly larger time commitment in the spring. Practice is still two times a week, but you play games almost every weekend or every other weekend. Often this entails a doubleheader on Saturday and one game on Sunday, and sometimes you will have to travel to places as far as Clemson. As a result your weekend is effectively consumed with club baseball, especially if you travel far enough where you would have to stay overnight. It leaves little time for partying on the weekends unless you get your work done earlier in the week. But overall it is a good, casual atmosphere of a bunch of guys that like to play baseball.

I (Pink) would just like to add that club baseball is a really good thing to do if you love baseball. Lots of people party on Wednesday nights here (Wake Wednesdays!) so if you don’t have early Thursday morning classes, you can go out Wednesday nights instead! Lots of people here play club sports and are also great students, are Greek, are in other clubs, etc.

I hope this answered your question! If you have any other questions regarding club baseball, TC & I would be happy to answer them!

whats the best job to have for work study?

“whats the best job to have for work study?”

None of them are bad at all, and none of them are super time consuming. I think working in Campus Grounds is the best one (in my opinion) because most people just go there to study and you’re allowed to study behind the register if no one is buying coffee. Some people like other ones better though – for example, refereeing intramural sports.

I’ve never heard of anyone who had serious complaints about a work study, though. They’re all fine!

Pinkcupcake: Best of luck to you as you begin your finals this week. You have taken alot of your time to answer student/parent questions and it is most appreciated. Hope you have a great summer!

Thank you, irishmary  I’ll need it! Fortunately I have something to look forward to – the library rave.

For those of you who don’t know, Wake Forest holds a rave in the library for an hour or so(?) during finals week. They also give the kids in the library free food (subs, etc), have free donuts on the quad (one day) and have free coffee in the library 24/7. During last finals week, Benson had free salads. The Panhellenic Council has free food for anyone wearing Greek letters (for the last three days of April), which is nice if you’re Greek. So there’s a lot of stuff going on so that you can still be somewhat happy during this week of … well … studying until your eyes blur over.

^ hahahaha i saw that on youtube :stuck_out_tongue: there was some kind of a party in the library LOL…people were dancing and stuff, it was awesome!

i asked this in the waiting list thread, but I’ll just ask you too b/c you seem very informative.

I’ve been wait-listed and I’ve sent two updates/essay to the admissions@wfu email, one yesterday and another like last week. I was wondering if there was anything else i could do other than more recs, essay, etc. rockvillemom suggested contacting the regional rep, but i couldn’t find anything like that on the wfu site (I’m from southern california by the way).

Also although wfu admissions said its impossible to determine my chances because people are always getting off and on the wait-list, do you have an estimate? thanks

i’m pretty nervous right now cuz rockvillemom said the people she knew, found out around may 1-3…which is right now.

Hellllllo:

I might send the letters in the mail instead of via email. I’m not exactly sure what else you can do, but I attached the CollegeBoard link about waitlists. It really is difficult to determine your chances once you’re on the waitlist, unfortunately. I would call admissions and explain that you’re on the waitlist and really love Wake, and if there was a regional representative that you could talk to. I do not have an estimate, although I’m pretty sure Wake publishes its waitlist numbers on the internet somewhere.

Some people do find out very early on, but this isn’t a death wish. Wait list notifications come out in waves at most schools, and not everyone will accept the offer of admission.

[College Wait List - college admissions requirements](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>What to Do if You’re Waitlisted – BigFuture | College Board)

I would just say to stay positive and just prove to Wake how much you want to be here without being overbearing about it. Best of luck!
