Student Arrested, Tasered at Kerry Event

SSbick, it is very pathetic that you have to go back to an event that took place about a year ago to try to distract the attention of what's really happening here.

Interestingly enough, I am not surprised to see the lack of any meaningful contribution to the discussion coming from you and the other trolls. The "Don't tase me, bro" incident is bigger than anything you have ever had with Uiniveristy of Florida. If you noticed is even featured now in the front page of College Confidential and multiple other forums.

Your feeble attempts to distract attention to this matter are rather foolish. You will seem a lot smarter if you contribute productively to the discussion. But then again, unless there are some dubious statistics that you can copy and paste, it seems that there is not much esle you are able to do.

MovieBuff, SSobick contributes much to this forum by bringing verifiable facts to the table and elaborating on them. Your contributions, however, appear to be largely limited to foisting your own opinions on the group, along with frequent name calling.

FLBoy, a forum's intent is to share information and promote exchange of ideas, information and foster discussion. In case you missed my post here it goes for you again:

"Perhaps some of you do not realize the international outrage about what happened at UF. From an american perspective, Meyer may have gotten what he deserved from being disrespectful and behaving like a jerk at the conference. Regardless, the excessive use of force and the behavior of the police officers is what has really come into question globally. For those of you who dare venture outside this forum, the term "fascist" is being entertained. This is being discussed by high school students across the nation and .....beyond.

Americans who do not understand how out of line the University of Florida Police Officers were, are really out of touch with what's happening internationally and with the stereotypes and perception that such behavior is reinforcing about how we americans are perceived in the global arena.

The President of UF was deeply embarrassed and showed it with his statement. It behooves all students ( especially UF students ) to be a little more tuned to that......no matter what an ass Meyer might have been."

All very verifiable facts, by the way. Look at your reaction and SSbick's!!!

LOL..hey movie... I do not know why you even bother. If they do not realize the way they come across is their problem. I have a couple of friends who told me that they even stopped checking out the UF forum because of the constant attempts at self praising!!! Did you missed the thread about "Floridians: do you know how lucky....!!!

By the way people, the T shirts are already selling like hotcakes!! LMAO

Moviebuff,

Your a biased UM troll who has no credibility on the UF forum. You post all the time on the UM site about how they are going to be jumping UF in the rankings, and all kinds of other bravado negative against UF. Your exploiting an event that recently transpired for your own personal agenda. I only brought up the UM-FIU brawl to show that terrible events happen to all institutions, and it is not a good idea to kick your rivals when they are down.

Reflect on this SSbick:

This is what's currently happening regarding the situation in a letter to all UF students.

To University of Florida Students,

As you are by now aware, yesterday afternoon, as a town hall forum with Senator
John Kerry was ending, there was an incident in which a student was tasered.
Many of you, and many of your parents, have expressed your concerns regarding
this incident to me and my staff. I would like to assure you that the
University is interested in learning what happened and in ensuring that we
utilize best practice protocols in maintaining a safe campus environment while
protecting the freedom to speak.

I would like to reiterate the immediate steps, laid out by President Machen in
his letter to the university community, which are being taken in response to
the incident.

University of Florida Police Chief Linda Stump has requested the Florida
Department of Law Enforcement conduct a formal investigation into the arrest of
UF student Andrew Meyer. An independent review such as this will make sure the
results are objective and impartial. Chief Stump's priority is to ensure that
the public remains confident in the department's ability to keep the campus
safe.

Two officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative
leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The institution plans to assemble a panel of faculty and students to review our
police protocols, our management practices and the FDLE report to come up with
a series of recommendations for the university.

Administrators and police officials plan to analyze the incident and conduct an
internal review and will consider changing protocols in response to this
incident, if necessary.

Finally, as is standard procedure, the State Attorney's Office will review the
charges brought against Mr. Meyer. We have communicated with the State Attorney
and understand that a review of the case will be expedited.

We plan to keep students updated on any progress through our website,
www.ufsa.ufl.edu.

I could bring up another terrible incident that happend at University of Miami last year, but I don't want to go there. If other people want to talk about the Tasering incident that it is fine, but you had better cease and desist your tirade against my alma mater.

Well, tell you what people. This is actually the most viewed thread and the thread with most replies EVER in the University of Florida forum. Let's just stop replying to see if it goes away.

It is rather sad anyway. Please..no more posts!! Just go to the main page of CC. It is there too.

MovieBuff, the so-called international outrage is largely the result of the parroting of newswire feeds based on sketchy facts. The "facts" about this case have spread spread with light speed courtesy of the Internet. Early interpretations of the situation were far from accurate. However, students and journalists near and far were extremely quick to squarely condemn the establishment at UF. In light of the VT incident and today's incident re the MIT student, I think you'll see a lot of tempering of opinions on this as to who is right and who is wrong in the coming weeks.

It's just way too early to pass judegment on the tasing incident. However, that has not stopped UF's detractors--including you--from pouncing on the heap. This reminds me of the reaction of the "rough crowd" in high schools when a fight breaks out among themselves, where they all rush in and climb over each other to get a better view and egg the fighters on. This rush to judgement is nearly as bad as in the Duke "rape" case.

international outrage? do you realize if he pulled the same stunt in many other countries he might have been beaten to a bloody pulp or shot?
