student at CC...desperately seeking to transfer to CSU/UC

Hi all, I'm a 27 yr old still going to community college. Yup, STILL attending, not like I took a break and then came back to school. Although, since I hadn't done much before i might as well have not enrolled and i wouldn't be in a deep deep hole as I am now. My story is that I floated through high school and didn't really give thought about college. No one in my family went to college so I didn't have any college stories or tips passed down to me, I was just expected to figure everything out myself but I wasn't challenged in high school and didn't care too much. After graduating H.S. in 2005, i decided i'd enroll at Orange Coast College to save money and to figure out what I wanted to do. I ended up doing really bad because i just wasnt interested in school and having to do something I didnt want to do. The fault was my own because i didnt even know what I wanted and i was being irresponsible by enrolling for classes and dropping them or not attending and getting F's. So i got kicked out of OCC and went to IVC/Saddleback where I did just as terrible. I kept telling myself i was going to do better but my heart wasn't into it, though I figured out i wanted to do psychology. It wasn't until last year that I started to take things seriously because I realized how old I am and that I need to get my sh*t together. I have to stop relying on my mom for financial support and I want to do something with my life. What I'd like to know is if i continue putting in effort and keeping myself motivated, would i be able to transfer? I am trying to do Academic Renewal at OCC but they wont do it until my GPA is higher, though I have taken courses at other schools in the same district CCC/GWC and completed units. Sorry if this is really long. Im in desperate need of help and counselors are no help!

Try here: <a href=“UC Transfers - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/

Try the transfer center counselors at CCC/GWC also. OCC has one of the best transfer centers so not sure why they aren’t helpful?

i wish I could just start all over, but i cant because of my academic history. have i lost any chance of ever getting my degree? my GPA at OCC is .77, OCC is 2.8 and GWC is 3.0

well the counselor that i spoke to was very judgmental and not helpful. he basically told me to stop going to school if but then he saw my recent grades and then said “oh well, youve been doing better so…” anyway, i didnt get much info from him, he just told me i had to keep taking classes, but im pretty much done with my units except for a few which i need to retake for a 3rd time. and to petition for that i have to have a higher GPA.

You need to find another counselor. You must learn about the Associates Degree for Transfer to a CSU. You may take classes out of the district and apply for academic renewal. Santa Ana College isn’t far from OCC and they have good counselors there.
