Student body at LACs

I get this image that students in LACs are the kind of students that are in spectra, and don't do much socializing. I think that they are the kids that are very good in art and music, yet aren't really into sports. Is this true?

Kids at LACs run the gamut. Some are very social, some are not. Some are into arts, some are into sports, some are into community service, some are into all of these things. LAC students cannot be stereotyped any more than students who attend large universities can be. Students choose to attend LACs for the things they have to offer - smaller classes, more personal attention, and a close knit college community. These characteristics appeal to a wide variety of students.

LACs are diverse as any university. They're just typically smaller and don't have graduate departments.

As far as sports, just to take two examples, Willliams on the east coast has 16 men's and 16 women's varsity sports programs and a large intramural program and have tremendous success in NCAA tournaments, etc.. Pomona on the west coast has 10 men's and 10 women's varsity programs and, again, an extensive intramural program. Pomona also plays in the extremely competitive SCIAC conferernce. In baseball, for example, the conference has numerous players drafted every year by the pros, including players from Pomona. They often play D-1 and D-2 schools.

As far as a "social scene" again using Pomona for example, it is connected with 4 other schools. About 98% of the students live on campus. You have events being staged constantly by the 5 separate schools individually and in conjunction ("5C" events). The various school administrations even cooperate (with controls) with allowing for alcohol on campus so as to not have people drinking and driving. If you can't find a party there, you just aren't looking.

Students at LACs are not strolling around playing lutes and reading poetry (well maybe some are)- lol
