I don't mean to stereotype, but how "preppy" is the student body overall? Lots of uggs/polos/vera bradley etc? (I know that people who are into that can be wonderful and intelligent as well, but my high school has that sort of environment and I would really like something different.) Thanks if anybody has input!

As far as I've seen, there are plenty of Uggs, but I think the polo/Vera Bradley stuff isn't so prominent. To me, there's not a wildly "preppy" vibe. That might be mainly because I also come from a high school (in Florida) where that sort of environment exists, and what exists here is MUCH tamer. I feel comfortable, and that's something I didn't necessarily feel in high school around those people, if that makes any sense.

Also, I have three pairs of Uggs...they are SO warm and comfy! When I was in Florida and always saw girls in miniskirts wearing Uggs, I didn't understand. It was Florida. Florida is hot. Uggs keep you warm. Wait...what??? Yeah, anyway, they're useful shoes here, especially if you get the Ultimate Uggs (with traction, so you don't slip on those treacherous, hidden ice patches).

I digress.

In my estimation, not very preppy.

Depends where you hang out on campus.

You will find some students will flaunt their wealth by the way they dress.

(I never owned a pair of Uggs or Northface apparel, and I survived the winters fine.)

I'm not saying Uggs are necessary...just quite comfy. There are surely far more practical, far less expensive shoes to be had, I will admit that.

Does northface count as preppy?

My friend visited NU and said that all she saw was Uggs and North Face. I'm definitely not saying that they're bad, but for that particular friend, NU wasn't a fit because of the Uggs and North Face culture. Personally, I loooove Uggs even though I don't have a pair. But I plan to get one.

Hmm, well, we DO have a nice big North Face store in downtown Evanston. It's funny...I never associated North Face with a specific culture before. I'm from Florida, so all things warm (except Uggs on the mini-skirted girls) are pretty foreign to me, so I just bought a North Face because I had only heard good things about them and I was freezing after the Ohio State football game and just went to North Face and bought one on impulse (not something I usually do, I assure you). I don't associate myself with a preppy culture...but I do love my Uggs and North Face. And I agree, the campus is pretty widely populated by Uggs- and North Face-wearing students.

All I know about North Face is the products are reliable and people wear them to keep them warm. I never associated them with any culture either. They are not cheap but they are not that expensive either. I wear North Face to keep me warm; when the weather isn't too cold, I may wear Hugo Boss to look good. ;) I live in DC and people wear North Face everywhere.

If there is a local Burlington Coat Factory store in your area, they have PLENTY of nice winter coats that are discounted and durable. I still wear mine and receive compliments. ;)

Now you know I always look for discounts on name brands. LOL

I don't understand why people are so against Uggs and NorthFace. I just thought people liked wearing them for warmth.

bleedingpurrrple, that's what I'm saying!

SO warm, I love them. =]
