student called

My S was accepted EA and tonight a 4th year student called to congratulate him and ask him if he had any questions. They had an interesting 20 minute conversation...nice I thought.

I was accepted EA and received a phone call tonight as well!

I thought it was very nice of her to call, but I didn't have very many questions off the top of my head when she called. It might have been better if she had e-mailed me instead of called me, as it kind of put me on the spot, but at least it shows that they care!

They must be really desperate to bring their yield rate up.....

I got called as well. I just asked about the dorms because I couldn't think of anything else, like you, off the top of my head.

did you all get holiday cards from your adcoms? i got a note on my acceptance letter, and then the card as well. no phone call. maybe chicago just wants to have at least one form of personal contact with each applicant? seems like a good idea.

I got the card...you must live farther away for them to get to you.

I got the card and a girl just called me a few minutes ago, like a dumbass i asked about everything but dorming lol. she was rly informed. they're getting me to really really really like u chicago more than i do already.

Accepted EA, no interview available, no call, no card, no admsission counselor visiting school, no nothing. Sigh. My caller ID says that I missed a call from the "United States G", whatever that means. I really want to ask few questions. Maybe tomorrow

Yes, my S got the card during the holidays as well. He asked about the dorm life/social life mostly I gather.

You might still hear jerew..hang in there...

glad to hear that others got called..

I just checked my messages and realized that I got a call...should I call her back out of courtesy? I wasn't sure. She was really nice, from my area and mentioned she could talk about transitioning locations. What do you guys think?

yeah i would call her back but just since id be interested in talking about stuff. did she ask to hear from you or say shed call back again?

Jerew: that sounds like somebody who forgot to register for selective service...

Someone called me last night and my mom told them I wasn't in. They said they would call back sometime tonight (and I never got a holiday card).

Holiday card and a phone call last night for me.

It was a third-year girl who was much more eloquent and mature than I would've thought. I felt like I was talking to an admissions officer rather than a student.

My only real question was the issue of grading. I asked if grade "deflation," as some call it, was a large concern among students, or if there were a general concensus that a Chicago education justifies a Chicago GPA. Of course, she thought the latter.

Then I worked in that little part about how Chicago was my first choice, and that pretty much settled the conversation (After all, it is only a bit above telemarketing. :P).

I will be eighteen in mid-April. It couldn't be the Selective Service. It was most likely a military recruiter. Oddly enough, the same factor that has caused me to be forgotten by Chicago and recruited by the military is the quality of my school: poor.

TWO holiday cards (adofficer and interviewer) but no call... actually caller from "out of area"... hopefully she will call back tonight

Anyone else not get called or get a card?

OK, I can stop feeling sorry for myself. I was gone and they called. I think I will call back tomorrow.

I asked my admissions counselor at school if I should call back today and she said that student calls are commonplace and that is was up to me, so I didn't, but then in the middle of dinner tonight I got another call, this time from a first-year. He was really friendly, and I felt bad that I didn't have more questions, so I asked if he thought I had a good shot at getting a single in Snell and he said yes. So the call was worth it!

My S has not been called; we're the last part of alpha though, so maybe that's why? He did get a holiday nice card with hand-written note, though.

momof2inca,

What exactly is alpha, and how is this alpha divided into parts?

And, please, no facetious responses about the Greek letter and how it looks like a fish with tail parts and all. :)

lol, Brinestone
