(And if this self-promotion is out of line, please feel free to delete - I certainly don't mean to offend or cross any lines...)

I don’t think it is out of line at all, but I am new to the board. Since I live thousands of miles away, I will not be able to attend, What a wonderful program though! The recent works fit in so well with the Schubert and I would love to hear the student works.

@mtiger - Although we all certainly love to hear about these things - it does open up a can of worms, as almost everyone posting on this board could be announcing concerts every month! We all want to promote our kids/selves and would love to have bigger audiences. We’re also, justifiably, proud of the achievements and want to share with everyone. But I’m not sure this particular outlet is the best place for it. For one thing, anonymity is lost - which we do try to preserve at some level (it gets harder as the years go by as the music world is actually very small.)

I’m interested to hear what others think about this. It hasn’t come up often on this Forum - despite all the times I know it could have.

I wonder if there could be an ongoing pinned thread with upcoming performances. Then, it’s a parent’s or student’s choice if they choose to participate, and perhaps become less anonymous. I don’t know if this violates any of the CC rules.

I like VMT’s idea. Standards could be adopted so that it is not every on-campus concert. But when playing an out of town venue I think it will be useful. ( I will not consider Cleveland out of town from Oberlin).

There are a lot of ways to publicize performances. I am not sure that College Confidential is even needed for this, at least in terms of getting people to go to the concert. I find that, as Spirit Manager said, the music world is pretty small and I usually know about concerts that are happening in my area or nearby cities, several times over. E-mails, Facebook, posters, media, schools, word of mouth…

Some parents “meet” here on the music forum and keep in touch by e-mail or Facebook. There are a few parents whose composer kids I know a little about, after a few years, and am always glad to hear about their concerts, listen to their music, and keep up with what they are doing. But that is very different from posting here.

No offense at all Mtiger. Perfectly natural thing to do. But it is true that if everyone posted what his or her child is up to, on this forum, it could become kind of a bulletin board for performances.

That said, great program, and if I were in NYC, I would love to go!

I understand completely. Thanks!
