<p>that does really clear it up but if Cornell doesn’t care where the money comes from then why can’t one of my outside scholarships cover student contribution? maybe not the personal expenses but what about my books? they have specifically told me that outside scholarships cannot cover student contribution nor can it cover parental contribution.</p>
<p>^because that simply isn’t how it works. Scholarship funds are deducted from your cost of attendance before your need is calculated. If they didn’t do that, then some students could end up putting money into their pockets and that isn’t really how things are supposed to work.</p>
<p>I live in the Seattle area, it’s Microsoft country, our economy always rocks. There were a lot of places hiring when I got my job.</p>
