Student Contribution

Hello! I have recently been accepted to Princeton Class of 2018 and cannot be more thrilled. I received my financial package as well and have some questions about the student contribution aspect. I am expected to work 9 hours a week and pay $2900 during the school year and $1100 through my summer job. If I decide to work more, say 20 hours a week, or work a second job, will that increase my student contribution for next year, or will the student contribution remain constant? I had a similar inquiry about the summer earning. If I get a relatively high paying summer job, will my summer earning expectations for financial aid be increased?

I am new to this process, so I would really appreciate some comments!

How you fulfill the student contribution portion is up to you. If you stumble on the powerball ticket on Sept 2nd, you’re golden! LOL. That section will remain constant.

You need to earn a significant amount above Princeton’s projections for them to increase your contribution amount. I don’t know the exact number but I think it hovers around the 8-9K number (total for the year) before they consider asking you for more. I would caution you about planning to work 20+ hours during the academic year at Princeton - especially in your first year. Your course load will most likely be considerably above what you are used to in high school. Ease in! You can always add more later.
