student contribution

Does anyone know if a Stafford Loan can cover student contribution? I don't have a job, can't find one, and don't have any savings. I'm doing my best though to scrounge up whatever I have. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Yes, you may use a loan to cover your family and student contribution. If you have not maxed out your unsubsidized stafford loan eligibility for the year, then you can request additional stafford funds.

I’m in the same boat. I’ve been searching for a job like a maniac and nothing is coming through. I’m worried because my mother already has to buy all the standard college gear as well as winter coats and stuff (I live in Miami and the heaviest coat I have is a sweater). It sucks because apparently scholarships don’t cover the SC either. So, I’m pretty much banking on some generous family members to help me out here.

But I’m still looking for that job. =)

I was searching the internet for some financial aid information the other day and came across this form.

http://finaid.cornell.edu/finaid/forms/upload/08-09-budget-increase-form.pdf

It looks like you can request to increase your Cost of Attendance budget to reflect some other items, and then get a loan to cover them. Things like computer, insurance, warm clothes if you are from southern states. Check it out.

I have a job, but they cut my shifts down to just 1-2 four hour shifts a week after christmas break. That doesn’t add up to much, but I should hopefully have enough at least for my SC before school starts.

Thanks for the link! That’s a great idea. If I can’t find a job before summer starts, I’ll set that up. =)
