Student diversity in the Ivy League: Princelings

"“So thanks for your time.”"

Lergnom, I don’t know who you are replying to. But you are one of several posters that I actually enjoy in CC. Cheers.

One great thing about growing up with the extended family I have is precisely having access to folks who had firsthand experience with events in Chinese history…including my great-aunt/uncle who lived through the Hundred Flowers, Great Leap Forward, and CCR as career university Profs. A factor in why their family were so harshly persecuted by Red Guards and Mao’s CCP during the CCR.

In the ways you’re making your arguments denying that branch family’s firsthand accounts, you’re not very different from many Maoist apologists who have been trying to whitewash the CCR to deny its atrocities on actual people who suffered from it…like those relatives and many HS/college classmates with parents/grandparents who suffered similarly during that period.

Block’s arguments sound very similar to several pro-Maoist revisionist “scholars” I’ve read in the past…except they relied on far more authoritative and reliable sources. Even then their articles read more like something I’d read from the polemic-filled Maoist International Movement paper/website rather than a serious work of scholarship.

In Block’s case, he was relying almost completely on a newsmagazine that’s like the Maoist International Movement papers commonly handed out by Maoist students at my LAC and other college campuses.

Only thing my friends and I get out of it is a good laugh and wondering what good drugs were they smoking. The fact our laughter annoyed the campus Maoists who actually believed such tripe just added to our mirth.

And I’ll leave you with one song that’s a favorite of the sloganeering Maoists of the CCR era:

Rock version:

:)

"“One great thing about growing up with the extended family I have is precisely having access to folks who had firsthand experience with events in Chinese history…”"

But you always quote some relatives and friends, in whatever topics you post, not just this one. How convenient. :-)

And I shall say it again, for example, you were so sure (message # 91) that Cultural Revolution is a tabooed topic in China, routinely quoting your relatives and friends again. But Cultural Revolution is actually taught in Grade 8 history in China (message # 93). How could anyone be so grossly wrong and still claim to have connected to some insiders to Chinese issues? Your pretense is already blown and you may quit your act now. :-)

"“In the ways you’re making your arguments denying that branch family’s firsthand accounts,…”"

And I shall say it again, would I be expecting you to openly admit that you don’t have anything to back up what you said and you just make it up as you go along, again-and-again? :-)

"“Block’s arguments sound very similar to several pro-Maoist revisionist “scholars” I’ve read in the past…”"

This is all you have, reciting some fragments of class notes in Chinese history and then filling in the gaps with your arbitrary stories from imaginary relatives and friends. You probably never thought of meeting somebody on CC with real experiences and direct contacts in China. :-)

"“In Block’s case, he was relying almost completely on a newsmagazine…”"

And you rely on arbitrary stories from imaginary relatives and friends. Who’s more credible? :-)

"“Only thing my friends and I get out of it is a good laugh and wondering what good drugs were they smoking.”"

And what have you been smoking to keep up the charade? :-)

This is probably the most important learning I have picked up from CC

Nahh. I’ve dealt with dozens of Maoist apologists who minimized/denied the atrocities perpetuated against those with “bad class backgrounds” during the CCR or other periods like the One Hundred Flowers.

Those of us with family with such experiences, studied the CCR in some depth, and/or lived through it first hand just figure we’re just dealing with another Maoist apologist who’s unhappy about negative PR arising from criticism of one of Mao’s pet projects.

It’s not very different from the type of behavior I’ve observed from right-wing historical revisionists like David Irving’s apologia about Nazi Germany or Tanaka Masaaki’s apologia about Imperial Japan’s atrocity laden militarist colonial legacy.

BTW: one of your fellow Maoist apologists Han Deqiang (韩德强) is carrying on the same old Maoist tradition recently by violently beating up an 80 year old man who dared to openly voice criticisms of Mao’s and his legacy. That’s being a good Red Guard…

““Nahh. I’ve dealt with dozens of Maoist apologists who minimized/denied the atrocities…””

You are only changing the subject. But one property about forums is that, all the earlier messages are still around and others can simply check back from let’s say message # 90 forward to see how your pretense is already blown. :-)

And you may want be drag yourself from your class notes in Chinese history and come back to real-life. None of this thread is about Mao. And China cares more about making money now than Mao. Please wake up from your charade and imaginary relatives and friends. :-)

For those who may want to read some accounts about the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, these are better than the fragments of class notes passed around here.

[Great Leap Forward - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Great Leap Forward - Wikipedia)

[Cultural Revolution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Cultural Revolution - Wikipedia)

By the way, I would like to remind you that foreign characters aren’t allowed on CC. :-)

What is truly despicable is the embrace of communists by campuses which don’t permit ROTC, while taking US government money and tax exemptions.
