Today there was an activity fair at the high school. I found out that if you run for SGA and win, you have to give up your elective to take SGA as a class. The thing is, I want to take computer science as an elective in order to take AP Comp. the next year. So my question is, is SGA worth it, or should I join in 11th and 12th grade when I have more electives?

This is probably to early to bump…

BUMP!!

That’s bogus to have a class for SGA. It should solely be a club. Go with CS.

That’s what I was thinking, but being in SGA is very important for the future. That’s why if I run and win, I’m not sure if it’s worth it…Thanks for the response though…BTW, I have the same problem with DECA…I have to take a business class to be in DECA…is it worth it?

Bump!!!

Honestly if the only reason you’re taking SGA is because “its very important for the future” then DONT.Because if you don’t actually care about helping out your school or enhancing school spirit you’re not going to do a good job and are only taking away a position from someone who is actually interested. Just take computer science if that’s what you’re interested in.

You can actually take AP computer science without any previous programming class. Idk if its the same in your school but the only prereq is algebra 1 for APCS A

first of all, calm yoself down, mate.

Second, if you’re looking for something that will actually prove useful and meaningful in your future, go with CS.

If you’re looking for actually meaningful student government, wait until college. In HS, it’s not a really useful expenditure of your time.

Thank you so much for all your responses. I am interested in SGA, but I think I want to try computer science because if I want to take APCS the next year, I’ll need computer science.:)

Bump?!!! I just want some more input.

I’m having the same dilemma right now. Student council or other elective? But I’m pretty set on student council so I’ve decided to run. If I win, then I’m willing to take a zero hour to fit in all my classes. I’ll be able to do student council and the other elective.

@Swinter: What’s zero hour? I’m not sure if the high school has that…if it does, I’ll definitely look into it!!!

Zero hour is a class period that occurs before school starts. Usually for kids who need to fit in more classes.

Okay. I think most people unanimously agreed that computer science is what I should go with.
@Swinter: Do you know if all schools have 0 hour? By the way, what time do you go to 0 hour, and when does your school start?

I know that many schools have zero hour. Can’t say all though. My school starts at 7:25 and zero hour starts at 6:30.

Our school starts at 7:20am. I’m not sure if my school has a zero hour, but if it did, it would probably start around the same time as your school’s zero hour.
