Greetings. My son will be attending a university starting next month. We are wondering what is the best way for him to carry around his Student ID card. I thought maybe he could attach it to a lanyard and wear it around his neck but he was told you cannot punch a hole in it. What is the simplest thing to do here? Carry it in his wallet? If he looses it, it costs $20 to replace.

Isn’t that what a wallet is for?

You can get an ID holder (plastic, just slide the card in) and attach that to a keychain/lanyard.

Or yes, keep it in his wallet.

Wallet. I wouldn’t recommend the lanyard because it’s one of those things that freshman get teased for. Generally you’d just have to pull it out for meals, and as far as getting into buildings, you can basically just hold the whole wallet up to the sensor and it will work. That is, unless you have a student ID from your old school in your wallet with it, which took me almost an entire year to figure out why the wallet thing didn’t work for me…

I leave mine near my door so I always remember to take it with me, and I just leave it in my pocket when I’m out. Never lost it after four years.

Yeah, wallet.

Get a tattoo of it on your forehead.

I have mine in the holder on a lanyard…actually most people at our school do. We just don’t wear them…girls carry it in their purse/backpack, guys in their pocket. We put car keys and stuff on there too.

I keep mine in my purse.
When I was in campus accommodation and needed it every time I entered the building, I kept it in an accessible outer pocket of my bag.

It would depend on your school but lanyards are often sneered at for looking very “freshman” and are usually not worn around the neck after the first few weeks of school. I had a lanyard for a while but I put it in my pocket. I think a wallet is the best choice, get one with a clear pocket on the outside for easy access.

It seems like guys just carry it in their pocket or wallet, usually.

Girls can get something like this: [All in One Wristlet | Vera Bradley](http://www.verabradley.com/product/All-in-One-Wristlet/154832/defaultColor/Call%20Me%20Coral/p/154832.uts?fromSearch=1)

I don’t know if there is anything of the equivalent of ^ for guys…or if they’d even want something to carry like that, probably not!

I just kept it in my wallet. My wallet is something I always have with me anyway, so it seemed like the best solution. The only thing I kept on a lanyard was my keys.

I have a leather wallet with a key chain that has a plastic cover on the front that works perfectly for ID’s. Usually keep my room key on the key chain, so I never forget it when I leave my dorm room. Most of my friends at different schools have the exact same one as me, except in their college colors and with their mascot stamped on the back. It’s also not that expensive, especially compared to Vera Bradley.

ID holder on a carabiner.

I leave it in my wallet.

I have a vera bradley case. Most guys I know just put in it their wallet.

I have a wallet with a clear pocket that I bought from the school bookstore.

Wallet.

Do NOT get him a lanyard; they are easy to lose. A lot of people “conveniently” put their ID card (which is also the meal-swipe and dorm building access card) on the same lanyard as their room key. If they lost the lanyard then they lost everything.

If you carry around a lanyard in the first night out in my college, you are guaranteed to be water-ballooned by upperclassmen.

just saying lol.

Definitely lanyard. You won’t lose it if it’s around your neck. I’d wear it to bed and the shower as well, just in case.
