If I’m a student in the college of arts and sciences and wish to pursue a double major, can that other major be a BS in economics from wharton?

no, the only thing you can do is get a university minor called Business Policy or something, but that's the only official credentials you can get from Wharton. You can still take classes in Wharton however.

thanks insane

You can get a dual degree from CAS & Wharton, but it will take more than four years.

you can?? even if you're a student in CAS?

You have to apply for a Dual Degree at the end of freshman year, or the middle or end of sophomore year, I believe. If you are a CAS student wishing to dual in CAS and Wharton, you will need to have taken the required # of cu's and you'll also need to have enrolled in a few required courses. You'll need an A- average to be able to do this (easier said than done, though).

depending on the dual degree majors / concentrations, it's possible to do both degrees in 4 years...

but yes, as a SAS student, you must apply for the dual degree and have a GPA high enough to be accepted; in past years that has been approximately a 3.8, which is indeed not so easy to accomplish.

i heard that the dean's advisory board in the college is considering proposing a minor in wharton.

Crashing - The Dean's Advisory Board in the College did propose a minor in Wharton, but that is the type of thing that has to get approved by our entire faculty. While there is a minor that has been approved by our faculty (a Statistics minor) we don't consider it a "Wharton" minor because Statistics is usually a department housed in arts & sciences, not business schools.

Beyond the Statistics minor (which has not yet been approved by the College as a minor) there will be no other minors offered from a Wharton department. Students can take as many Wharton classes as they want, they can pursue a University Minor (between multiple schools, including Wharton), or they can pursue a Dual Degree. But no such thing as a Wharton minor. Sorry folks!

Picking and choosing Wharton classes from the safety of your CAS perch is much more fun than actually being in Wharton. ;)

About that 3.8, it's not like you can just dibbydabble and take 8 classes in the English department to get that high GPA, they'll be expecting you to have taken Calculus and Econ already, in addition to probably having fulfilled some Wharton requirements that cross over with SAS ones (Writing, Language, etc).
