Student intern looking for (private) dormitory near Manhattan

Dear people here,

I am a foreingn student and work for an internship in a laboratory from September 2009 on for 6 months with no payment at NYU.
I am desperately looking for a possibility to live together in a building with many other students of my age (around 20-28) on the same floors, having a kitchen together etc, I do not want to live in a single room.
If the people are not all students but around my age it would also be ok.

Official dormitorys from NYU seem out of question because I don't have student status as NYU student as it was told me. So I have no access to the official dormitories.

Do you know any address or informative URL or contact apart from Off Campus Housing Office and studenthousing.org and craigslist where I can especially find rooms in floors where students live together? Maybe there are private and relatively affordable dormitories not too far away from Manhattan where I will work (23rd East Street) ? Maybe something from the church?

I was told from off-campus housing that my status as a foreign student gives me access to private dormitories but not to the official ones from NYU.

Room-sharing is out of question for me.

Thanks very much in advance, I would appreciate your help very much.

I cannot vouch for any of these:
