student life and financial aid

so im interested in fordham college, it seems to be a good fit for me. my stats are about dead on so i think i'd get in (but noone can be positive) so i was wondering what the social life was like? are there good parties and all that jazz or is it really mellow there? and also for you students about how much are you paying a year with all of your aid fixed in there? cuz i hope to get a decent amount of aid as i am a middle income family from iowa. thanks a lot : )

I can attempt to answer your questions. I dont work for Fordham, so its not official. According to another poster (rainoffire) on another thread, Fordham has had yet another record breaking year for admissions this year, which will mark the 17th consecutive year of increased applications. Its tough sailing out there for kids these days. So getting into Fordham is no guarantee and if you do, then you should feel very, very proud. According to rain, the avg SAT last year was 1230/1600. It will likely increase this year.

The life at Fordham College at Rose Hill or College of Business Administration (CBA) is really what you make of it. There are integrated living and learning dorms which are highly selective and lots of fun. Some of them like Queen's Court have traditions that go way back in time. There is plenty of activity going on outside of classroom and studying. Fordham has strict rules about drinking underage, though it occurs. You can have LOTS of fun without feeling pressured to party. Sports on campus are bountiful and fun to attend. From basketball to football to soccer to lacrosse or whatever your interest. Both competitive Div I stuff to club sports. But Fordham is an academic school and the workload is not exactly easy. Come prepared to work really hard. Some professors are notoriously tough graders as well.

Fordham kids are very tight and stick together when they go into Manhattan, for example.

Fordham financial aid is from my perspective adequate but not overwhelming. They spread it out a great deal and according to another poster on another thread (who knows the official stats well) it ranks very high in its awards/treatment of Pell Grant eligible students. Not all elite schools can claim that. Assuming you are admitted, you will have to evaluate all your options, where you got in, how much they offer and how badly you want to attend Fordham. From my perspective, the opportunity for my daughter to attend a great school in New York was worth the extra money it is costing us compared to other offers she had.

From the moment you arrive in April for the admitted students orientation you will feel a part of the Fordham family. They will embrace you and welcome you. There are kids from the midwest, west coast, southwest and southern USA at Fordham....all over. They are doing a better job of recruiting outside the northeast.

I will tell you that we had many other offers to consider and walked on campus last April and had an "epiphany" about accepting Fordham's offer. We do not regret that decision one iota.

If you are religious and spiritual, there is plenty of opportunity for that, and plenty of people who will join you or admire you. If you are not religious that is okay too. Fordham is looking for kids with character and integrity. Its just a great place to go to college.

I hope you apply and I hope you get in.

Thank you very much, that was extremely helpful!

My pleasure! Cover all your bases just in case. WIth a 40% acceptance rate, and declining, its tough sledding for lots of kids out there. I hope you get in and we hope to see you on campus.....my D has applied to be an RA.
