Student Life at BU

Just wanted a overview of the student life at BU. Are there a lot of places to hang out? Hows the safety? How are the dorms and dining halls and food? Etc.

Student life, like with any school, is as good as you make it. As you get more involved, campus feels smaller. Personally, I do a bunch of different activities and extracurriculars here, so I see friends virtually everywhere I go during the school year. BU has gazillions of clubs, a big offering intramurals, a little bit of greek life, etc. You can find one to fit just about anything that interests you here. Other than through those things, a lot of people make friends from their freshman year residences. Meeting people in class is a bit tougher. There are a bunch of ways to make friends though, especially when you first get to the school. Still, it obviously is a big school, which adds a cool vibe of being able to meet new people all of the time.

Dorms vary in style, size, and location on campus. The variety is good. Most people generally grow to like wherever they’re staying. The atmosphere in mainly freshmen dorms differs a lot from what you will find in a more upperclassmen focused one. There’s also lots of specialty housing available if that’s your thing. Compared to many schools, the dining hall food is excellent. I won’t lie though…after awhile, you get sort of sick of it like anything else. Still, they have a ton of options to choose from every day. Dining points for the food court-esque places are in highest demand. Safety’s always a priority in the middle of a city. All large dorms have 24 hour security guards. All residences (those with & without the security guards) require you to swipe in with your BU ID. In case of any emergency, blue boxes to call the police are all over campus too. There’s a police department in West Campus.

BU is located right near the Back Bay/Fenway/Allston/Brookline areas of Boston. I still find new things to do around the area. Not to mention, the school is always offering all sorts of stuff. Living in Boston is awesome.

Thanks for all the information Lauren 591!

Anyone else have any comments on BU Student Life?!?!
