I just visit Case Western and really liked the campus. It seems like a great school for me, except for a few comments I've heard about it. People seem to think that students at the school spend all of their studying in front of their computers, and don't spend much time at all having fun.

Of course, i know how to work and I am not looking for a party school, but there is more to the college experiance then getting good grades.

Are there any Case students or alumni that can give me a first-hand opinion as to what student life at Case is really like?

My brother goes to Case Western, so this is based on what he has told me.

Case is by no means a "dead school." Students spend a lot of time partying on weekends, and they even have a sizable Greek organization. The thing is, everyone at Case is motivated and recognizes that work comes before play. They do seem to spend a good deal of time discussing academic topics outside of class. Case is definitely a "nerd" school, but like I said, not a dead school. I hope this helps you!

Overall, my brother has been very happy with Case. He has gotten a few very bad professors, but you'll probably find those in many schools. He enjoys his classes and absolutely loves being in Cleveland. From what I understand, students divide their time pretty evenly on and off campus on the weekends.

I really think alot of people would be surprised if they actually spent some time at Case rather than believing all the rumors they hear.

I'm a rising junior at Case and i've had a great time here for the past two years. I'm probably not THE biggest partier you'll ever find, but I definitely go out to drink a couple nights a week. Most of my friends are the same way, but we all do recognize that academics come first.

Greek life here is pretty big. I think roughly 30% of the campus is involved involved in greek life, although I'm not.

Although Cleveland isn't the grandest city in the world, there really is plenty to do around here, especially around campus. There are tons of museums right in the area (within walking distance), as well as the cleveland orchestra, which also plays on campus.

As sst said, Case is a bit of a nerdy school, and there are some people that don't like to leave their dorms very often. Still, I think that's a minority-even if most of us are nerds in some way, nerds can party a lot harder than you think.

Also, i'll concede that the sports scene here is pretty weak-although the soccer and football teams are certainly up and coming. Let me know if you have any more questions.

In a city like Cleveland, anywhere might be considered "rough." This is especially true if you come from a relatively well-off city that's not in the Midwest. Crime is a really big issue in most Rust Belt cities, and it's not really confined to certain areas of town. As long as you're careful, and don't do stupid things like leave purchases visible in your car, you'll be fine.

I've personally never had an issue, and I've lived on both ends of campus. I have heard of people getting mugged, but these are usually the stupid people who walk across campus alone in the middle of the night.

There was an issue at a certain part of campus with people being mugged, but the school fixed it pretty quickly by setting up extra security in the area. In general, the campus is fine (assuming you're somewhat intelligent) If you head east off campus though, well...just turn back.
