student loan and living situation

i got a stafford loan for this year. when i filed my fafsa, in my living situation i filed as "off campus". at the time i filed i was renting from a friend, but now i am currently living with my parents. my and friends are supposed to get an apartment this semester but i dont know when.
i got a full stafford loan. can my lender require me to pay back anything because of my living situation? does it matter?

So you were off-campus, at home with parents, and now are returning to off-campus? It doesn’t sound like an issue to me (other than a pain to move around so much!) and how would your lender even find out about this? In any case, it’s your school who is responsible for certifying your loan up to the COA budget they calculate for you. Unless your loan put you at the max FA level for your budget, it may not make a difference even if you did notify them that you intend to live with your parents next semester.

ok thanks. yeah i moved out but that situation didnt work out so i came back home. someone told me about if you file as off campus and they found out you were actually living with parents you would have to pay back money. i didnt think it made any difference. also being im paying rent either way.
yeah i was just a little worried.

Your aid is based on your COA. Some schools only have one only COA. Others have 2 COAs, one for on campus and one for off campus. Some have three COAs, on campus, off campus not with parents, off campus with parents. The COA for off campus with parents is usually lower than the other COAs.

Your school may or may not have different COAs for different living situations. If they do then I am not sure how it is handled if you have several different living situations during the year. I would think as long as you lived off campus and not with parents for at least part of the year you are fine. If the school ever did question it you could explain if it ia a temporary situation.
