Student Loan Dilemma - PLEASE HELP

<p>The poster appears to attend Rutgers and appears to be Pell-eligible, which to my mind would make vehicle ownership and maintenance especially burdensome. Perhaps he or she is commuting to campus, in which case, indeed it is cheaper than room and board. If not, Rutgers certainly appears to have intercampus and connecting local public transit.</p>

<p>I was mainly thinking of all the students I know who GO AWAY to college and insist they need a car…which just isn’t true.</p>

<p>In my own midwestern city, we have a university about a half hour west of our downtown that is decidedly rural and isolated in nature. Students regularly claim to need a car to get there. </p>

<p>My son took dual enrollment classes there in his junior and senior HS years exclusively via public transit, which was frequent, fast, and cheap. Perhaps we are unusually fortunate in my city, but I actually think that many people simply aren’t aware or calibrated to the fact that public transit exists.</p>
