Student loan

I have some questions about a student loan.

I want to attend Potomac State for Pre-Pharmacy and then to West Virginia U. for pharmacy, but theres no way I can have a job and go to school at the same time. I have a place to live while attending Pot. State, and don't want to live on campus for the 2 year college, but will for the 4 years at WVU.

Anyways....my questions are...

1.) Will a student loan be able to cover my gas, food and rent though I'm not living on campus, or will I inevitably have to live on campus to have my living costs covered?

2.) Will I have to pay after I get my associates in pre-pharmacy, or do I start payments after I graduate from WVU?

Still need info if anyone can help

Not enough info to answer #1. What does your FA award letter say? Is there enough loan left after covering tuition and fees for them to refund you the off campus living amount you need? What’s your estimate for those off-campus expenses?

You’re only eligible for a $5500 Stafford loan freshman year. Any other loans will likely be Parent Plus or private loans with a cosignor, unless you’re also offered a Perkins loan by the school (depends on your EFC generally).

You don’t start making payments on your federal loans until 6 months (9 for Perkins) after you stop attending school at least half time…so after your PharmD. Private loans don’t always offer that, some start immediately, and Parent PLUS loans can usually be set up either way. You can do some reading on loans here:
[FinAid | Student Loans](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Student Loans - Finaid)

As Sk8mom says, you did not give us enough information. For how much financial aid do you qualify? Did you fill out FAFSA? Are you independent (age 24 or other special category)? If not, what are your parent’s financial situation? How much did they make last year and what assets do they have? Have you spoken to the financial aid office at Potomac State? They can give you the most specific information.

If you are eligible for government money, the only sure thing you can get is $5500 in unsubsidized student loans. The rest depends on your finances and your parents’ and your college. Yes, you can live off campus and still get aid, but if you are living with your family and the college considers you a commuter, the amount of aid that you are eligible for may not be the same as a student who has room and board expenses. Also different colleges have different rules about living off campus. So a lot of this has to be discussed with Potomac’s financial aid office.
