Student Murdered in her apartment

A female senior biomedical engineering student was strangled in her apartment Sunday. It was all over the news. :(

Read here. http://wbal.com/apps/stories/templates/news.asp?articleid=27510

holy moly...

She was not strangled. It was aphxyiation which may have been caused by a gas leakage. As of now it was definitely ruled as a rape and murder.

off campus housing anyone?

holy crap. another one? someone died last year too

There was one last year and one this year? That's not good... Um, how many students can live on campus?

The University is in the process of implementing a comprehensive security overhaul. You can find details of the plan at: webapps.jhu.edu/jhuniverse/today/trinh9.cfm

i believe someone died off-campus after frat party or something.
To JHU students:
Is it really unsafe to walk around vicinity of JHU campus alone?

anyone wanna be my friend next year so i don't get mugged? =)

ill be your friend if I am admitted :) ( I am going to get my gun if i do )

now i am going to think twice before going to jhu

During the day, I feel completely comfortable walking alone. At night, I make sure to have someone with me. Although, there have been those times when I did walk alone. Whenever you go outside you'll see jhu security driving by in cars pretty much in any direction you look. Also the school offers a shuttle service which will pick you up and drop you off anywhere within a mile of campus; this even includes parties, food shopping, etc. You can also call for a walking escort. There are some areas you know not to walk in, but even in those if you're in with a group of people, you feel safe.

my brother goes to jhu and he says he feels really safe there. he said that the murder was done by someone this girl knew, so it doesnt really reflect the college. As in any big city you just have to be careful.

yea, the police think linda trinh knew her killer because there were no signs of forced entry. HOWEVER....this does not excuse the fact that there is always room for improvement of security. if you want to check out what they are doing to address this..go to the new message board....I think the url is something like http://remembering.jhu.edu - but if i messed up on a www or something forgive me.

read about another dead studenton the jhu main page today...

quite sad

what the f*** is going on there

Suicide. Its not 2 murders.

Wouldn't suprise me...

Baltimore has the highest murder, VD, robbery rates in the Nation

Even the mayor got mugged recently. If he isn't safe, you think you will be?

I was by the Baltimore ports a few months ago and it looks very nice and professional. It was, of course, during the morning and afternoon times.

Anyway, I don't know about murders, but the city is VERY congested with traffic. Simply crossing the street is very dangerous and one has to be extremely careful.

baltimore is no different from any other major city. you dont think this stuff happens at NYU? at columbia? at penn? at u chicago? at USC? its everywhere.

and i think its a little naive for you insinuate that this stuff will automatically happen to you if you go to hopkins. i dont think thats the case by any means.
