Student Offer Decision Due Before All Decisions Available

I posted a similar post as a reply within this thread, but then I realized that maybe I have a better chance of getting information with a clear title.

My S applied to transfer to a few schools. For freshman applications most schools have the same dates for student accepting offers, however this is not the case for transfers. He has received a few acceptances but some schools will not let him know for quite a while. Their acceptance date for transfers is after he is expected to let some schools know his decision. What should he do? His first choice is one with the later acceptance dates (of course!)

He has asked for an extension, and has received a few, yet the "new date" is still prior to the acceptance date of his 1st choice school.

What should he do? Isn't it "not right" to accept a spot (with the knowledge that I may lose my deposit), and then later refuse it, if he gets into his first choice? I feel funny doing this.

Thanks for help.

Don’t feel funny, the transfer process is different from fr admissions, so it’s OK to put down a deposit at one school while waiting for the decision from another. The downside is that you will likely lose your deposit if he doesn’t attend. Transfers can do any combination of the following:

Ask school for an extension of when you must commit to matriculate.

Ask school to release your decision early.

Place a deposit on a school while waiting for the rest of your decisions to come in.

Thanks. Your 1st suggestion didn’t really work out unfortunately. He will try option 2. And of course option 3 will be his last resort. But really - all the schools have different dates. Some applications are not even due yet - while others have sent out acceptance letters!
