Does anyone know if they give you blanket "S" permit which is valid at any of the Student lots, or is your specific permit valid only at a corresponding lot? I imagine the lots may fill up in the early hours of the day, so does this mean you would have to navigate to another lot? Any other advice would also be appreciated, if you've used the student lots.

Each lot has a list of permits that are accepted and at what times they’re valid for. The S permit gives you access to all S lots.

In reality, driving in Berkeley is a pain. People with cars typically walk between classes. If you have an S permit, the idea is that you’d park at any lot on campus (after travelling from some distant off-campus place) and then walk between your classes / other on-campus business.

You can’t buy a permit unless you live outside of the boundary defined here.

There is a separate (and much more expensive) permit if you are getting the residential permit.

With the S permit, you are only allowed to park at Lower Hearst, Tang Center, Channing Tennis Court, Underhill, and along the Stadium Rim Way. I usually park at Lower Hearst and I can get a spot if I arrive before 10AM. Other parking lots, especially Underhill, you need to come much earlier than that.
