When does a college begin to keep tabs and a file on a student? Like I visited the campus of a university and met with an admissions counselor and then wrote her a thank you note in the mail… But would any of this even come up when they begin reading my file/application? ALSO what about when you call the school and they ask for your name? What does that mean? Can it hurt if I called/emailed about the same question multiple times because I have gotten different answers from different people? I think I even got the same admissions officer for the two times I called
Dear Msbox44,
Enjoy the college admission application and try not to obsess about it too much. What really matters is that you have a solid rank, high school gpa and good SAT/ACT scores. Everything else is just “fluff”. There are a lot of websites that you can use to compare your standing with regard to test scores, gpa etc and see how you stack up against your competition. Apply to a couple reach schools. a few schools that you would be a solid candidate for and maybe one safety school. You are going to wear yourself out mentally by worrying about the small stuff— good luck as you navigate your way through the college admission process. If you do it right, it can be a very exciting process.
They definitely take note of your visits, info sessions etc to gauge your interest. I don’t personally think that demonstrated interest is just fluff, I think colleges take it really seriously to protect their yield!
