Student "Records" and "Files"

When does a college begin to keep tabs and a file on a student? Like I visited the campus of a university and met with an admissions counselor and then wrote her a thank you note in the mail… But would any of this even come up when they begin reading my file/application? ALSO what about when you call the school and they ask for your name? What does that mean? Can it hurt if I called/emailed about the same question multiple times and will that even be recorded?

At most schools a file is opened whenever the first official contact is made (campus visit, test scores, transcripts, etc)

Unless the school is very small, or your contact with admissions office is at insane levels, I doubt it will have any impact on your application.

Schools often track “interest”…look at the colleges “Common Data Set” to see if your school does. If so, they will track if you contact the school, sign up for emails, do an interview, do a tour, read emails, etc. Not sure why you would have to ask about the same question multiple times, but if you are clarifying an issue it should be fine.
