Student Summer Contribution + Work Study

How does contribution from summer earning works?
DO you submit that money to college??

How does work-study money work? is it given to you to buy books, etc.?

-ar

Money from your summer contribution is used to pay toward your expenses (travel, books, tuition and startup costs at college)

work study is earned through out the school year and is usually used for misc. items and travel money.

If I have other expenses (such as buyign a computer (1000), paying for eye-care (1000) and buying winter clothes (800-going from South to Northeast), without any financial support from family, can I ask my college finAid to reduct my summer contribution based on the above needs?

summer earnings- goes toward what student EFC for tuition-
workstudy- is paid like any other job, and is usually used to personal expenses- books etc.

Students are eligible for reduced medical insurance if your family does not have ins (?)
$1000 for eye care- seems really expensive- do you have a special condition? If your glasses are just an expensive prescription, you might try Costco- my frames and lenses at a independent shop 5 years ago were about $650 and I just had new frames and lenses made at Costco that are comparable in features and style for $170. :)

Also- not many schools require students to own a computer- you should be able to use the computer lab- or find a used one

Same with winter clothes- you won't have that expense immediately and depending on your schools location, there may be great used clothing shops- also check online at the REI outlet.

Summer earnings is what you make from your summer job - you are expected to work and help pay for your own expenses.
Work study is what you earn from a job during the school year. The paycheck goes to you and you use it for expenses/tuition, etc.
