How easy is it to get tickets for sporting events? Do you need to get in a lottery for football and basketball tickets?

My son goes to U of I, he bought season tickets to football during orientation 77.00 bucks/yr with student ID, this year for first time basketball has not sold out on the some games, not sure how the student gets them though (b-ball)

That's sweet. What a great price!

When was his orientation?

Actually it was $87 for students ($77 for tix + $10 processing fee they make you pay). My cousin also went to U of I and I think she said she gets the student price for 5 years after graduation. What happened with me is before school started they mailed me vouchers for each home football game, then the week of the game, you go to the booth they have set up in the quad and exchange the respective voucher for the ticket to the game that week. The earlier you get to the booth (the booth opens 10AM on Monday) the better seat you get. So get in line for the big games if you want good seats. The orientations are held throughout the summer, when you accept, they will ask which date you want to do the orientation.

As for basketball, if you get season tickets, they rank each applicant based on year in school, number of credit hours, and if you bought football season tickets (and I think basketball for previous years) or not, then the higher your number, the better season seats you get. Not many got seasons because many thought the Illini were going to be poor this year, but now all the student tickets are gone for the rest of the year.
