Student with berkeley and other Uc's in mind

Hello. I know the Uc's do not count freshman year but I also am applying to USC. Here are my stats
Freshman year: 3.7 gpa (2 honors courses) (Hardest courseload)
Soph year: 3.67 gpa (2 hon, 1 AP, 1 sem jr College) (Hardest courseload)
Junior year: 4.56 gpa (3 AP, 2 sem jr college, straight a's both semesters)
Senior year: to be determined... taking 3 AP's at least
SAT I: 2000/2400
Possible Major: 1) music 2) business
Race: White
California Resident
Btw... almost all of my EC's are band...thats my true passion
My brother went to Berkeley and UCSC (high honors)

EC's:
-My brother created an online business which I work 20 hours a week for. Working since Sophomore Year. (3 years)
-4 years enrolled in our nation known marching band
-1/2 year freshman band, 1/2 year wind ensemble 2 (usually only for juniors/seniors) 3 years Wind Ensemble 1 ending as 3rd chair trumpet (most people only get in this band as seniors)
-Accepted to Allstate band as one of top 8 trumpets in California
-Exceptional musician award given to two band students every year (chosen by director)
-Mentor Junior Year (Band)
-Section Leader Senior Year (Band)
-2 year member of Amateur Radio Club - (Secretary last year)
-8 years piano lessons (quit in highschool to be in band)
-president and founder of my highschool's Musical Appreciation Club (2 years)
-Member of CSF (2 years)
-Many hours of community service (don't know exact numbers)
-Played various sports some for almost 10 years

Thanks for all feedback. Also... Is it better to major in music or major in business. My grades reflect my intelligence and effort in school but all of my Ec's reflect my dedication towards my love for music. Which one will give me a higher chance to get into the colleges? Thanks again

Your background sounds impressive... maybe just as a tip, I wouldn't mention on the application that you want to get into business, though. You're applying to L&S, I'm assuming... so you're better off just saying you want to get in undeclared, or mentioning that you're interested in the Music major. I strongly believe major choices do play a factor in determining your acceptance--I had a friend (Asian) who applied to Cal and UCLA under the MCB major with a perfect transcript and everything. She didn't get into either of them.

If you're aiming for Berkeley, Haas is supposedly very competitive. If your true strengths lie in music, then the phrase "play to your strengths" has serious meaning in this case ;) Good luck!

hellomooto:

UCB/UCLA: Slight Reach
UCSD: Match
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Safe Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safety

The most important thing you have to do is pull that SAT score up to a 2100 at least. Don't forget about SAT 2's.

Focus on music as a major since you really shine in that department.

Thanks for the replies guyz.
Can you also tell me where I stand for USC? I think my GPA is actually a bit lower. Now that I know I cannot make up the math course like I had hoped. My UC gpa is 3.38 and junior year is 4.69. Thats a UC GPA of 4.04. For the UC's, is it more important to have a higher UC GPA (weighted) or the unweighted grade? Do they only calculate the unweighted grade? For USC? My top choices are Berkeley, USC so I am quite interested in both. I hear USC is a bit easier. Thanks again!

bump bump

I believe the UC's use the weighted UC GPA on their freshman profile.
