Is there any one accepted off the waitlist as a freshman in the previous years? if yes, what is your major and what could be the reason that made the application got out of the waitlist (essay, number of spaces, fall semester grade etc)?
I was waitlisted for this fall with the following stats:

3.9 UC GPA, 2240 SAT1, SAT II: Math : 790, Chem: 740
3.8 Unweighted GPA in Fall sem. (3 APs)

I’m waiting to hear back too but my stats are not as high as yours…

You didn’t mention what your major was? Mine was Mech Engr and I was waitlisted 2 years ago and got in I think on May 2. My SAT was about 100 points lower than yours, but otherwise similar. I think they waitlist a good percentage of impacted programs in case they get too many acceptances. By using the waitlist, they can then accept each week exactly how many spots they have left - basically a management tool. 2 years ago, they were basically accepting in the regular decision the same students that were being accepted at Cal, UCLA, UC SD, etc. So I think once the acceptances/turn downs came in, they had lots of room for people off the waitlist. Everyone in my 6 room suite was from the waitlist.
Good luck to you.

jbourne: Thanks for your input. My intended major is Bio-Engg. I contacted Admission and I was told the same that the decision on waitlist is depending on the availability of number of spots after May 1 dead line. I doubt they look at the stats again to determine admission. Hope that more # of spots become available after May 1 :)
