Students applying to UWC in 2020

@haisuu I don’t think grades are that important. Your essays also have weightage. But don’t worry you’ll be amazing! Best of Luck!!

My first preference is Pearson college but every UWC school is amazing, I like all of them. BTW Guys do keep us notified if any of you gets an update regarding your admission process. That would be really helpful! I hope you all get selected!!

Hi! I’m not sure if you’ve heard back in regards to a potential interview but I got an interview invitation about a week ago.

LPC seems amazing. I was looking at the curriculum and work with coral reefs yesterday, it’s quite cool.

I currently don’t even have a first choice. The more I learn about each school the more I fall in love with each of them. Adriatic and RBC both have my attention though

@starcuriosity Congratulations for reaching the interview round! All the best!

OMG CONGRATULATIONS!!! I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed for you

I received an invitation as well - I heard the interviews will be conducted sometime in January. I’m very excited but also quite nervous; as I don’t have many connections to current or former UWC students I’m not too sure what to expect or how best to prepare

Best of luck though, I believe in us!!

Oh and if anyone wants to connect outside of college confidential, please lmk! I’m more than happy to share my email or Ig :relaxed:

Hi!

I haven’t had my interview yet but I’m expecting an email with a set date sometime soon; I’ll keep y’all updated!

I’m wishing you all the best, definitely let us know when you find out

Imagine how crazy it would be if some of us from this thread ended up attending the same school haha

I’m so proud of you, this is extremely exciting.

I think we’re supposed to receive an email within the next week in regards to interview dates. I know kind of a lot of people who attend UWCs, they are all more than willing to answer questions. I can give you their contact information if you would like

It would be so cool if we ended up going to the same school. One of my friends who currently attends UWC-USA met one of her closest friends at the finalist weekend last year. I’m so psyched to learn more about UWC, I hope we can go through this process together :slightly_smiling_face:

Best wishes,
Liana

How did your interview go? Have you heard back from them yet?

I thought my interview went okay! I definitely think I could’ve done better, but it is what it is. I think they emailed decisions yesterday; I got waitlisted! It’s not bad :))

i’m so proud of you for making it this far! i know the rest of your high school experience will be amazing regardless of whether or not you go to UWC :relaxed:

Hi, I am a tenth grader applying through the USA committee. I got invited to virtual finalist weekend in February. Is anyone in this thread going? I’m a little nervous and would love to hear if anyone has any advice.

Hi! I’m going to be attending the US finalist weekend as well

Congratulations. I’m so nervous, but we have time. My insta is camille_yay if you wanna talk about it.

I know this is an older thread, I tried to create a new one and CC would not let me. So here goes nothing:

My son (10th grade high honors, yippee!) wants to apply to UWC. The application process if I understand it correctly, has 2 avenues, 1)USA committee applications, which makes financial aid available to the student and they do not get to pick the school, they rank which ones they want to go to? And 2) Global applications, which is parents pay in full and student applies to one school?

We would like to know what the need based requirements are for US students? We are concerned that if we chance going through committee, he will miss this opportunity. Are there merit awards?

This kid is determined, I will say that much. Please help me understand this process better!

HI, I can’t answer your question as I’m confused about this too. It does seem through US National Committee scholarships is available while Global Selection Program means self pay. What I don’t understand is do students get to assign to different UWC if they apply through US NC? I wonder if you get an answer from admissions, before I ask.

There are no clear requirements however I feel the process is different than other US Boarding Schools.

Hello!
I’m applying to UWC and am waiting to hear if I’ve passed the interview stage! So yes, the difference is that the NC gives scholarships to the applicants, the Davis Scholarship, and later (maybe) a need-based based on the families financial situation. From what I understand, near the end of the stages, the applicant ranks the UWC locations from most to least preferable, however, the final decision is in the hands of the committee. There is never a guarantee of which choice the applicant will get, however, there have been instances where people have gotten their first or second choice. The selection committee often takes the choices into consideration, but at the end of the day, they choose the location they think best fits the applicant. For example, if the applicant is interested and serious about a sport, the committee may be more likely to choose a UWC location with facilities for it, the same goes for those interested more in music.
I hope that helped!
