wondering how many students/incoming or continuing, are using this site in their selection of courses? Do you find it has been helpful for you?

yeah it’s generally pretty accurate

I used it. My school automatically added courses for me because of my major and they aren’t letting me switch out of the ones I am already in.

So I have crappy professors for Biology, Calculus, and Chemistry. Lucky me. From what I read, all three professors rush the material, don’t care, and are VERY boring during lectures.

The sad part is, I found other openings with professors who got better comments but the computer won’t let me switch out without the dean’s permission. :(

I suggest any incoming to use it though. It helped me a lot in high school with course selection.

I ended up with really amazing professors last semester because of it. I highly recommend it.

In my experience the site has been hit or miss. I’ve had excellent courses with professors maligned on the site. I’ll just say that there are a lot of lazy students out there . . .

Yes I like it.

But I have to agree its hit or miss.

As if the classes alone didn’t suck! I’d die with those 3 in one semester. (Am pretty stoked my major doesn’t require calculus or lab sciences, hah)

I haven’t used it, and don’t think I will, for this semester at least. Not worth the hassle of trying to find classes with “good” teachers.

I also think sites like this are hugely biased. People don’t come online to praise something - they come to complain. Be it a product, a service, or a teacher. People don’t sign up for the Apple forums to talk about how they love Apple’s computers - they talk about the **** that goes wrong with them. If a student fails a class, I’m sure they’re gonna say the teacher sucked, regardless of whether they actually did. I think the whole “good/bad” teachers thing depends moreso on the student than the teacher. (Throughout high school, many of my friends absolutely hated a few classes taught by certain teachers. I myself had no problems with them, and my grades were fine. One in particular, I actually really enjoyed (and it was a subject I hated, to boot!).)

Not saying all the ratings on the site are biased, but I wouldn’t take it all as fact. Don’t think your life is over because a teacher’s rating isn’t spotless.

Yeah it’s not too bad, just beware of some of the teachers that have only one or two ratings because sometimes it’s wrong. Otherwise it’s been pretty accurate and I try to put in my own personal opinion about the professors I’ve had as well.

You can’t go wrong by selecting the professors that have a little red pepper next to them. ;)

Generally you have to take all the ratings with a grain of salt. Lazy students will say the prof is too hard/mean/whatever. Most of the time, though, the professors with high ratings really are good professors.

many colleges have official teacher evaluations from student surveys that have larger samples. at UF its on their provost website.

I use it for every class now. After picking a ****ty class I always use it and it’s really accurate. Certainly there are poor sports who are just complainers, but it is spot on. I checked out all my old professors to see what it said for them and I swear, the comments are slightly true. No bias on my part.

It’s a good indication of what your professor may be like. I would recommend using it to avoid professors who lack an interest in their students or passion for their own profession (as far as teaching it is concerned). However, I would not use it and then avoid professors just because people complain that a course is hard or too difficulty. Embrace difficulty.

I use it all the ime when deciding what couse to take. I have found that its pretty accurate. Good or bad I like to know what Im geting into.

Generally, I only look when I’m stuck deciding between a few classes or if I need to take a certain class that has multiple professors available. But yes, take it with a grain of salt. As someone said before, really the only thing that really makes me cautious is if many people say something about a lack of passion.

In my experience, its only good if you are looking for a class that will give you an easy A. Lazy students will give negative scores for a really good professor if she/he is tough. If the reports say the teacher gives easy As, then usually its true. A lot of times they say that the professor is really hard even though they are not.

I’d say that it can be very wrong - especially with courses in your major (people outside your major who have little to no interest are likely to not grasp the material as much and negatively comment the professor)…

Likewise, a professor who teaches mainly to people in their field is likely to have a higher false positive.

But usually it’s correct, I’d say, but only when there’s lots of ratings. When there’s 5 or less I don’t even regard it.

I use pick a prof. I like it a lot better.

I didnt get the chance to use it but I lucked out and most of my prof’s have good reviews up

I don’t trust them for my college. I’m in the honors college at a state university, and I don’t necessarily trust other students’ opinions when negative comments more likely than not are due to laziness… or lack of intelligence. -shrugs-

i agree with Ejdeha, they said my English professor was pretty hard but I found her to be quite interesting and one of my favorite teachers.
