I need this for my essay. So I know people are Penn are called Quakers. What’s the equivalent for Brown?

The obvious answer would be brownies…

Brunonians. Students don’t call themselves “brownies”

^I thought Quaker was the athletic nickname for Penn, like Brown Bears.

LOL, Harvard students don’t call themselves Crimsons either.

I wonder how admissions officers would respond to “It has always been my dream to be a Brownie!” in an essay.

lol so what is it?
Brown Bears? That sounds weird haha

You should listen to the Brown student who replied…

And Wikipedia corroborates: “People associated with the University are known as Brunonians.”

I’m a little bit naive here, does anybody know why it’s Brunonians? I never knew that until I read this.

Bruno is the name of the costumed mascot that frequently appears at athletic games.

^Brown was originally called Brunonia, I believe.

And that’s a myth, BillyMc. Brown’s mascot wasnt the bear until the 20th century.

Brown was originally called the College in the English Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.

^BillyMc this is why Wikipedia isn’t the always the irrefutable source.

[Encyclopedia Brunoniana | Bear](<a href=“Student Groups at Brown //”>Encyclopedia Brunoniana | Bear)

Interesting. However, I was accurate in stating the original name of the university.

Wikipedia did not make a false statement, I simply inferred incorrectly as to the origin of that phrase. I apologize.

Accuracy is not synonymous with correctness. When I said “called”, I meant referred to, not the literal denomination i.e. “We call University of Pennsylvania ‘Penn’”.

If the university was not called that until 1829, it remains both incorrect and inaccurate to say that the university was originally called that. In that case, a reference in 1764 would have to be cited.
