Students at Columbia

I miss JohnnyK. At least his digs at Columbia were fun to read. (Actually, he was more pro-Penn than anti Columbia.)

If you are lurking I hope that you are doing well. :)

Re: #30:
My comment was based on what I was told about life of your relatives across broadway.
I presumed it was a locational consequence and applied equally to the greater community as a whole. I take it my presumption was in error, sorry. It would seem then that this is an area where lack of swipe access is an issue, for them. 'Cause they can’t throw parties in their dorms. Or let unknown males get in, like for a party.

“Due to their NYC location, both Columbia and NYU are overpriced, if not overrated.”

Columbia gives really good financial aid.

So yeah, why don’t you skate on out of town, hot shot? Yer kind ain’t need here.

Among the ivies, Columbia has the highest Cost of Attendance (COA). Not to mention, Columbia is the only ivy that does not officially release its “average student indebtedness” upon graduation. What’s Columbia trying to hide?

Avg Student Indebtedness , Private National University

$5,859 , Princeton
$10,813 , Harvard
$12,297 , Yale
$19,085 , U Penn
$19,390 , Brown
$20,126 , Dartmouth
$24,750 , Cornell
**na , Columbia **

as i said, columbia gives really good financial aid.
according to this: <a href=“USA University College Directory - U.S. University Directory - State Universities and College Rankings”>USA University College Directory - U.S. University Directory - State Universities and College Rankings;
yale is actually more expensive. and anyways, the difference in cost of attendance among the ivies is pretty small
and why does it seem like you hate columbia? .

Facts don’t “hate” (or lie).

The cost of living is higher in NYC than other ivy cities/towns. What’s your source of Columbia’s “really good financial aid”? Compared to that of which other ivies? HYP definitely offer more generous FA than Columbia.

Here you go:

average student indebtedness, middle of the pack:

financial aid:

[College Search - Brown University - Cost & Financial Aid](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

Columbia financial aid matches princeton’s and narrowly beats browns.

Finally living in nyc is expensive if you have to rent your own apartment and pay taxes to live in the city and pay for all your utilities. A student at Columbia can pretty much eat for $5-6 a meal all semester, $2-3/meal if s/he cooks. If food is inexpensive and drinks are inexpensive and public transportation (subway and buses) easily available, your cost of living can be quite low. Just because there are opportunities to splurge does not make the cost of living for a college student go up.

dimsum, ru like trying to prove that columbia sucks?

dimsum, sorry, but you have no room to talk. Although you grew up in the proximity of Columbia University, Columbia has not accepted you. You have never attended and obviously will not attend Columbia University. Your opinions have little credibility.

Yes, it did. But that’s neither here nor there. And who said that one can talk only about schools to which s/he was accepted? That means one cannot talk about 99%+ of the universities in the world. CC would cease to exist.

Have you never uttered a word about schools to which you didn’t apply or weren’t accepted? I find that hard to believe.

then why did you even apply to columbia

Despite its flaws, it’s still a very good school. No school is perfect.

i don’t think anyone would argue that HYP offer more generous aid than columbia - and also than 99% of 4 year universities.

i think you are hard pressed to compare columbia’s fa to nyu’s as they are both different.

and the fact of the matter re: graduate student to ugrad. when including GS it is 7,250 ugrads to 7,363 grads (in seas, arts and science, sipa and arts - and it should be noted that few ugrads take courses in sipa or the arts, as they are primarily graduate centered). if we were to remove gs, and remove sipa/arts - we would be at 5,845 to 5,145 ugrad to grad students.

in the end the only thing you can conclude is that it is equal number ugrad to grad within departments that directly impact columbia student populations. beyond the fact that you have to consider that columbia still has a wicked low student to faculty ratio.

I find it very hard to believe that you got accepted into Columbia, based on your past posts. Are you saying that you were accepted into the class of 2014? Also, if Columbia accepted you, there is no possibility that you would be this hostile towards Columbia. Acceptances remarkably change people’s opinions about schools.

No, I have already graduated from college.

You should hear some of the things I say about my own alma mater.

That’s probably why I didn’t.

If you’re trying to convince people that Columbia students aren’t unfriendly, you’re not doing a very good job.

Yeah, I am starting to see this for myself.

It’s a legitimate question, Mr. I’m Graduated. Get a life.

Honestly, I’m not even trying. But if I wanted to, I wouldn’t have to try very hard.
