Students at Denison University

One of the last colleges I'm looking at is Denison University, and while everything sounds great about it (especially merit aid and the bio program), I keep hearing different stories about the students who attend this school. Some people mention that most of the students are snotty, from a higher class and look down upon others; however, others have claimed the opposite. I'm not really sure which story is true, and I'm hoping somebody with experience can give me their opinion on the matter. Thanks.

bump…

10 students, 10 personalities , sometime 11! some people have an agenda when they tell you stuff, sometimes it is true! go visit the school (yes I know 7/8 hours is not enough for a real read) but,you will get a much better feel then listening to hearsay!

As is true of just about every university you’ll be able to find your group. My DD1 graduated from there and she is flying out to visit her former roommate on the west coast.

I really recommend visiting Denison. It’s a fantastic school, great academics (especially science), and I have some good friends there. On the flip side, yes, (in my opinion) Denison does have a fairly preppy community, at least compared to similar LACs. Judge for yourself, don’t judge based on other peoples’ testimony ^^

Well, it’s going to be hard to judge for myself since Denison is about nine hours away, and I may not be able to make a visit there.

Also, if you’re interested in Denison’s Bio program and aren’t sure about the community, check out Earlham College. Our bio programs are sister programs in that there is a lot of collaborative research between the two colleges, and both colleges are well-represented at local undergraduate research conferences. Earlham has much less of a preppy atmosphere (in my opinion of course), and if you’re interested in visiting, the Admissions dept. will fly you out here for free. :)

I have looked at Earlham College actually. It’s my number one choice. Thanks!

My son will be a freshman at denison this August. He visited 3 times and felt better about the place with each visit. Kids and faculty seemed more down to earth than snooty, and everyone seemed really enthusiastic about the tight knit community that Denison offers.
If Granville is 8 hours away, it’s a drive. I think the school can put you up for a night. It’s worth visiting.
