Students beware; UGA & GT getting more selective!

Someone chance me?

@halcyontimes Thanks for responding! And I have taken AP Chemistry, AP Computer Science, and I am currently taking AP AB Calculus.

I don’t know if this matters but I added incorrectly and my real SAT is 1250. Thirty point difference but whatever.

I tried applying as a computer science major in 2011, but I was rejected… i think if you take more rigorous AP classes, that will help you. It’s also important to PASS your AP exams.

3.67 GPA
29 ACT
5 AP classes - AP CalcAB, CalcBC, AP Psych, APUSH, AP World, 4 honors

:(

Please keep chance requests in the chances section of this forum. Thanks.

Not surprising. Both schools are making leaps and bounds of progress.

We wouldn’t need to make posts here if people actually answered chance threads…

Does anyone know when Collegeboard will be updated for 2012 information?

You have a better chance of getting a response to a chance question where people really wish to discuss that and think it has any utility. Please read this, and keep the “chances” questions/threads/posts where they belong. You are new to cc. Welcome. But please follow the forum rules. Thanks.

Georgia Tech’s 2012 profile was updated this morning.

Good luck on March 9th!

Does anyone have any trend-lines for transfer students?

Would love to have a look at that. The acceptance rate is about 40% according to Collegeboard.

Decisions should be out.

The UGA admissions blog released some data on Class of 2017. Does anyone have any info from Tech or Emory? Congratulations on everyone who was accepted!! Go Jackets!

GT 2013 Admitted Freshman Profile
Applicants: 17,611
Acceptance rate: 39%
Average GPA: 4.0
Averaged Number of Weighed Courses: 8.6
Average SAT: 2150 (713 Verbal / 744 Math / 694 Writing)
Average ACT: 30

Great! Can you provide a source for that? Also a 2012 vs 2013 comparison if you have it.

I’m wondering how the admission trends of UGA and Georgia Tech stack up in comparison to Emory U. I would expect the gap to be closing. UGA and GT both set new records for class of 2017, while Emory suffered some reputation hits this year.

Although Emory’s endowment saw an increase while most other endowments saw a decrease.

Does anyone have any data?

Emory’s admissions took a bit of a well deserved hit last year after presenting some skewed data. Additionally, they are directing more of their applicants to Emory at Oxford for their first 2 years. GT is sending some to their Savannah campus.

I’m not sure about that. Schools would rather route applicants to the main campus to become more “selective” in terms of accepted applicants.

GT Savannah and Oxford Emory may have seen a rise in applicants just as every other school in Georgia has. The only major schools I know didn’t see a considerable increase in applications is Georgia State and Mercer. Regional schools such as Kennesaw and GA Southern also saw an increase.

I don’t know how other private schools like Agnes Scott fared.

Many of the students who apply to transfer from the 2 year schools (ie Ga Perimeter) are admitted to GT Savannah, even if they apply to GT Atlanta. And Emory Oxford met with college counselors and talked about the placement of some at Emory Oxford. I totally get the concern about admissions percent, but they need to fill these other schools as well. I think its like students who are admitted to schools for spring rather than fall semester.

I was aware of Georgia Tech accepting students to Savannah, but I didn’t know Emory was doing the same. Interesting.

I wish schools would stop admitting freshman for spring semester. It’s not good for an 18 year old high school graduate to sit around and do nothing for a semester. I’m assuming many of those kids take classes at a community college and then go off to UGA, Tech or wherever for the subsequent semester. Especially since some courses are only offered for a particular semester. It complicates things.

I just thought I might drop this off here. This is a good comparison between various schools in Georgia. I wasn’t aware what GT had a higher avg research expenditure than Emory.
