Students: Do You Use Wikipedia in College Search?

Pretty much self explanatory: when you are (or were) checking out colleges, was Wikipedia on your short list of sources of information?

Only if I was really serious about the college and wanted to more history behind an institute.

Princereview.com tends to me be more of an actuarial/statistical tool and a means for the school to make a statement that sells itself - as dos a given institutes website.

Wikipedia is very awesome for getting you info that isn't condensed into the same old statistics (it has that too, if that’s what you want). For example, the wiki page on caltech's housing system gave me a ton of insight into traditions and personality that I haven’t seen reproduced anywhere else.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_System_at_Caltech
Wikipedia is far from perfect for college-searching but its definitely a useful tool.

yes i do! : )

I did to find some "colloquial" information like traditions etc.

pretty soon www.collepedia.com will surpass wikipedia though in every aspect. It should be completed by Q1 of 2007.

I checked out UConn from collepedia and crosschecked the same exact text at wikipedia. Boo!

I wiki'ed every college I applied to. Not only did it help me determine if I really liked the college, it also made writing the "Why ____?" easier and more personal to each one.
