With the new school year underway I wanted to get some feedback from NEU students, especially freshman, on their experiences so far (good and bad).

This is only my third day here so I don’t have much but I figured I’d post something anyway because nobody else is. Classes don’t start until tomorrow so I can’t tell you anything about them.

Here’s what happens basically. You come in, meet your room mate, and say goodbye to your parents. Then most people leave their doors open and people are walking into each others rooms and saying hi and stuff and it’s kind of awkward but it’s cool that everyone is so open to come in and talk to new people.

Then I went and played wiffle ball with some new people. Then I came back to the dorm (which is nicer than I thought it would be by the way) and ate at the dining hall, which is right in my building.

Then comes the parties. At around 8 people are really looking for stuff to do. There are TONS of parties all around campus, and for the most part just pre-gaming and after-partying on campus. The problem is that you need to have connections to get into them, and for most of them you have to bring a bunch of girls. You can’t get into a party with 4 guys. You need like 3 guys and 5 girls. The parties are a lot of fun…generally around 20-30 people each. Of the three parties I managed to get somewhat invited to I got into one, got turned down at another, and the other got cancelled.

My basic day so far has consisted of any combination of dining halls, sitting in my dorm on the computer, working out, wiffle ball, beach volleyball, trying to find parties, and doing stuff for the college of business.

I love it here so far. I hope the classes turn out all right and I can find more parties though. I’m sure the parties will be easier to get into once I meet more people and make more connections. Plus I haven’t even been here on a Friday or Saturday yet, so I’m assuming it’ll be easier then too.

If you have any questions I’ll try to answer them.

Which dorm building are you in, and how is it?

I’m in Stetson West and it’s pretty nice. Decent sized room compared to other colleges. Plus the bathrooms just got completely redone and they’re very nice. Also it’s great having the dining hall right in my building. Plus I’m near the center of campus, so it’s a close walk to everything.

Are you in an LLC? Or know of anybody who is?

No I’m not. People that are in them seem to like them because they’re in similar classes and they can ask each other about homework and stuff. I figured I’d meet people in my major during classes so I wanted to meet people outside my major at my dorm. It’s really personal preference.

I’m actually starting in Northeastern in the spring. Do you know if the business LLCs are in Stetson East?

I’m not sure, I just know that they aren’t in Stetson West.

What are the best non-honors freshmen dorms?

There are a few non-honors people in International Village so that’s probably the nicest but it’s mostly honors.

Then it really depends what you’re looking for. Kerr Hall probably has the biggest freshman rooms but it’s smaller than the other dorms and a little farther from campus. The Stetsons and Speare probably have the most freshman and they’re closer to campus and the dining halls. None of the freshman dorms are amazing but the upper class ones are very nice.

Anyone else? how are classes going so far?

My sister (smart girl, in pharm program) said she’s surpised at how much reading she has to do. It was like the third and she freaked out to my dad, kind of an eye opener i guess
