Student's Interest vs. School's Interest

I know Yale has piles upon piles of applications, and they are looking for the very best (unique?)...

What do you think is more important? The amount of interest (well-written application, quality of essays, some other factors?) shown by the student, or how much Yale actually wants that student (they like the applicant's ECs/scores/personality/etc.)

So I guess the two scenarios would be:
1. High level of student interest, but Yale has low interest in that student
2. Yale is very interested in the student, but the student is not that interested in Yale

I guess high and low are pretty relative terms.

Which do you think Yale would take?

I'm thinking there are enough people that apply to yale that they are able to find a group of people who they really like and who really like them.
