Students protest housing crisis and meal plan price increases

Packing up to leave today. Hard to believe 2 yrs are over. Saw the piles all pounded in for the new dorm. Lots and lots of them! DS said they stopped pounding (except for an occasional BOOM) just in time for finals…

My son got a 3 bedroom, 2 story house for next semester on Millaubaun which is 2 blocks south of St Charles and 5 blocks west of Audubon Park. I’ve only seen pictures, but it is gorgeous (much nicer than any apartment I had in college, or even several years after I graduated) The kitchen and baths are totally remodeled and it has a fireplace in the dining room. They are paying $2100 a month. They’d looked at 3 bedroom houses for $1800, but they missed out on them. I guess they are paying a little extra for the location.

Thanks to jym626, curiouser, and jjcddg for the responses. Very much appreciated.

Yes, jym626, I’m in the final weeks of completing my graduate thesis, and I’ll be officially done with school this May! Have to say, I’m very ready to finish up and get to work. I’ll be starting a real estate development and investment management firm this summer, and I’ll be leaving New York and heading south to New Orleans to do so. The next couple of months should be very exciting!

Again, thanks to everyone for all of the replies.

^^^ Which begs the question, NYUgradstudent-- where are you going to live??

jym626,

Well, I’m coming to NOLA from the West Village in NYC, which is an awesome neighborhood, and which is very similar to the Quarter (walkable, dense, mixed-use, and full of people on the streets). Funny enough, I chose the apartment I currently live in because it reminded me of the FQ with 4 sets of French doors along the length of my living room that open to the street and wrought iron balcony details. So, I figured while I’m still childless and single, what better time to experience life in the Quarter, right?
