Hey, I was just wondering, do schools [such as Brown] ever accept students that are not of the normal calibre? I mean, the stereotyped student at Brown has a 4.0 GPA, SAT of 2400, founder of Model UN, Class President, Track team for 3 years, Captain of Chess, 500 hours community service and so on and on…

But are students ever chosen because the adcoms can see something different in them? Do they ever have a look and see that an applicant may not be in the top 8% of the year, and may not be the kid who spent their Saturday mornings at the local charity fundraising event… but the rather the student who achieved average grades, wasn’t the best swimmer in the school - but played many sports, had an average involvement in the cultural side of EC’s, and the suddenly broke away from the pack…and started their own businesses, climbed Africa’s highest mountain, wrote their admission essay on how they saw themselves alive despite the fact that they were facing down the barrell of a .45 … and the kid who may not be wealthy enough to pay tuition but who should be at such a fine school?

I know this is a random topic, but are there ever students who are not just the same as their peers? Are you one of these students…?

[I’m just giving an example on these different students, this isn’t what I’d say in my app]

Thanks :)
