Students with disabilities and golden 4

I have a learning disability in regards to mathematics; I've been tested and have documents supporting this issue so it isn't just a wild claim.

Anyway, this semester I'm taking math 105 as my transferable math and the final of the golden 4.. but I don't think I'm going to pass the class, I have a 68% right now. So, I'm wondering if in the event that I fail this class, will the schools that I've been accepted to rescind their admittance despite the fact that I have a documented disability?

I mean I'm an honors student, I have a 3.1 gpa, I've done volunteer work and everything else under the sun to the best of my abilities, except for this damned math.

I know I should call them (the schools that I got accepted to), and I will, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this or something similar? Just looking for advice, really.

call who what when where? are we talking merced here or cal?

UCSB, and Cal States Fullerton and Long Beach.

3.1 GPA honors? what school is this?

Santa Ana Community College, we really only need a 3.0 and 5 honors classes for 15 total units to complete the program. President’s Scholars are a 3.5 gpa.

Well I was diagnosed with cancer last year and this required a few surgeries and radiation. I was diagnosed after I had sent my UC’s and CSU’s apps and the surgeries, loss of focus, and the constant driving around attacked my GPA last semester. I ended up getting 2 C’s and 2 A’s last semester.

I sat down with each rep (UC or CSU) and explained my situation; some of them where really understanding and helpful and made every attempt to really emphasize that to the admissions board and director. I also sent a letter to the admissions office with a copy of some of my medical records which verified any information i stated in the letter, to each school explaining what had happened, how this has affected me, and what they can expect in the future. I am very glad I did because many schools aren’t heartless and will cut you a little slack if you have a legitimate special circumstance.

If you have a certain learning disability you should definitely tell them. I wouldn’t call but rather sit down and talk to someone (either a rep, counselor. or someone from admissions). I know its not the same or anything but i hope I helped…

First off, thank you very much for sharing your situation with me! May I ask if you’ve gone into remission?

And thanks for the advice–I think it would probably be a good idea to contact the Disabled Students Services on campus to get their support too, yes?

I dunno, I haven’t gotten into Long Beach or SB yet but if… in the event that I do and don’t pass this class I just want to be prepared.

I would try to set up an appt with them, so yeah I would definitely do it.

And no, not yet… But it does look really promising. Thanks for asking!
