How would you characterize the student body and how does it interact? Is it clicky and what are the different groups on campus? Also, in gereral, what types of people does Ithica attract?

Hey guys. I am also really curious about this question. Anyone know the answer..at all? What are the people like there. I want to know before I make a decision.

from what ive heard its pretty much homogenously fairly wealthy WASPs there with nearly no minorities. Looking at their stats they're about 90% white, 2% black, 3% asian, and 3% latino, so that sounds just about right

I hate when people just use statistics to talk about a student body, it does no justice whatsoever to the people who attend the school.

There are some typical "rich kids" at Ithaca, but its not NEARLY as bad as at other schools. Most students do have to work hard to go here and hold down campus jobs to help.

I would say the student body as a whole is very much community based. Most students are not only actively involved in clubs and organizations at IC, but are also involved in the community of the city of Ithaca as well. Campus officials encourage students to give back to the community and many students do through volunteering (sometimes finding themselves working alongside professors), or supporting the on-campus sustainability and recycling efforts. IC is a campus of activism! Students are not content pretending like they don't belong to more than the sphere of a campus. Students are constantly seeking ways to expand their sphere of influence, and I think this broad-thinking is one of the reasons why 98% of IC graduates have jobs or attend grad school within the first 6 months after they graduate. Ithaca prepares students for the real world, and helps them learn their role in it.

Students at IC are ready to embrace those roles, and that really is a quality that sets us apart from the rest.

Also, on the issue of diversity, while we may have low percentages of minority students, that number really is meaningless. On Ithaca all students interact and support one another. Other schools may have higher percentages of minority students, but often it seems that if the percentages are higher there is more segregation amongst students. I may be white, but I am good friends with people of all backgrounds! So, be careful of misinterpreting statistics...

Happy college searching. Good luck!
