Studio Art by yourself?

Hey everyone,

My mom's friend's daughter (going to be a junior) is looking to take another AP to make a total of three next year. She's really interested in art and is quite good at it and is wondering if it's possible to do it by yourself. Not as in is it hard to self-study, but can she submit her work without a teacher or any administrative help whatsoever.

So yeah...that was the question lol. Can she do Studio Art without having a teacher submit it for her?

Thanks & good luck to all of you for the rest of your APs! :)

Bump. 10char

Yeah! She should be able to, but I’m not completely sure if she can do it without ANY help. I know that the school’s AP coordinator is actually the one who submits the portfolio to College Board. If the school already has AP Studio Art then it shouldn’t be must of a problem. If the school doesn’t have AP Studio Art I would talk to the AP coordinator; it shouldn’t be too hard to accommodate her, but you never know. Sorry if this wasn’t that definitive.

I took 3 AP classes junior year and will be taking 3 more as a senior. I will be taking AP Studio this year, but took Advanced Specialized Art last year. At my school, it is the immediate prereq and pretty much exactly the same as AP. My teacher only got in my way; everyone I know prefered to work at home where they could spread out and not have her looking over their shoulders. It really would be the easiest AP class to do independently. (By the way, that’s not the same as saying it is a bunny course!) Just make sure to take the class as an independent study through your school. You need a school code to take an AP exam or submit a portfolio.
