I would like to know more about the art program at UVa. Is it possible to see studio art classes during DOTL? And, How do I go about combining a fine arts major/minor with say Biology/Premed?

I don’t know whether you can visit a studio art class in the same way you can visit other classes–possibly not, since these involve actually doing work, not just sitting and discussing/listening. But I’m sure somebody in the Art Dept. would be happy to show you the facilities. The Art Dept. just got a beautiful new building a few years ago. The theater, art, and band programs are now grouped together on the “Arts Quad” and the architecture school is next door. Check out the Art Museum as well while you’re there; it’s a great resource.

It’s not hard to combine an arts major (visual art, drama, or music) with premed. You can either do a double major in a science subject + an art, or you can do the arts major and just take the premed requirements on the side. It’s actually a very common option among artistically-talented kids who also want to make a good living eventually.

There’s going to be an arts reception at DOTL! I just got the info and am about to post it on the blog. :)

Thanks! We just got the email for the arts reception and will definitely attend. It’s good to know others are doing the same kind of thing that she would like to do with Bio/Pre-med and Art.

We’ll be at the art reception too and S has same exact plan, to double major in Art along with a science (tbd…so many to choose from :)).
