My dtr. is artistic and wants to double major in studio art and possibly business. Is there any advantage/disadvantage to applying in one school with the intent of a double major in another school? Would it be better to apply to the art school and dbl major in bus. or apply to the bus. school and dbl major in art?

art and double in business, i'd say, because she has to be accepted into the art school. i'm going to be a freshman art student in the fall, so of course i'm biased. but i'm going to double in studio art (fashion design) and probably art history-anthropology in ArtSci, so double majoring in two schools is something that happens all the time at WashU.

When double majoring at WUSTL, I think certain majors take precedence and therefore, the School that houses that particular major becomes the student's primary school. I am pretty sure that's how it is for art, at least.

Thanks for the info. So it seems that applying for a spot in the Art school and then double majoring seems best.

Tell her to get her portfolio prepared (slides) and sorted well (each piece means something by itself and in relation to each other or can). That makes a heck of a difference. I would also recommend she apply to a few other art schools for comparison purposes. It can come in handy...

Take care and best wishes.
