This is my first CC post. I am a California community college student with a 3.9 GPA, significant intern experience, and a strong art portfolio (drawing and painting). I have done a summer program at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Although MICA has an outstanding painting program, I would prefer to study art in the context of a LAC. I plan to apply for admission as a third year transfer to (some of) the following colleges. I will be majoring in studio art (painting), but also have an interest in psychology and sociology and their integration with art. I would appreciate any insight you can share with me concerning my college selections. Are any of these schools particularly outstanding in studio art? Are there any that I should eliminate from my list for any reason including lack of a quality studio art program? Is transfer admission into any of these schools virtually impossible? I'd like to get my list of 10 schools down to about 6 or 7. Thanks for your help.

Hi Bowwatch, I guess I’d most like to know how you selected these schools in particular. BC certainly stands out as the one that is most NOT like the others. Also Williams is conspicuously absent from your list. What was it about these schools that you found most appealing. Knowing that, we may be better able to help you.

You could argue MHC and Smith are most dissimilar to the others. ;)

Believe it or not, students attending a college with a Jesuit affiliation are very much like students at Midd. Albiet, BC and Holy Cross students can hold their beer better.

Mr. Ups still popular?

I wonder not so much about the list but how this list came together for a Studio Art major. While the facilities are there, I am thinking this is not exactly the most supported major at Midd. I can see Bates much more clearly in the mix as far as major.

OK Guys, I admit this might not be a well thought out list. I am open to suggestions. What schools should be considered by a studio art (painting) major. Please keep in mind that I do not want to attend a stand alone “Art School” , e.g., Rhode Island School of Design.

My niece goes to grad school at RISD and has the opportunity to take a ton of classes at Brown. The opposite is also true. So maybe Brown should be on the list if you dont like pure art schools. Another one that comes to mind is Alfred in NY. Bard is another great liberal arts/art school.
