Okay so if i was to do stella adler and still have musical theatre in mind for my profession then I guess i would just take voice lessons (singing) and dance as electives? But would that prepare me enough? If I have musical theatre in mind should I just go to BoCo? Ahh I hate decisions like these! I’m torn apart

My son was admitted to Stella Adler too and is interested in the question of singing and dance…although he is not as MT oriented as you so we have not examined the topic closely.

From previous posts on this forum I think it might be possible to take singing lessons as a two credit elective but that there may be waiting lists for this (help, somebody).

As for dance you would have to pay extra for outside lessons and travel to a non-Tisch location I believe.

Yes, there are waiting lists for private voice for non musical theater majors. I know of several freshmen this year who tried to get private voice and were unable to do so, at least through Tisch. I don’t say this to be discouraging, but just to tell the truth. I am sure that there must be actors who take private voice, though.

My Daughter(Stella Adler studio) had to take private voice lessons outside of NYU. It is expensive and she has had to cancel a lot of the time because she is so busy. She loves ballet and has found it hard to take classes. (also because of time). But she loves her voice teacher and loves her studio and wouldn’t change anything for the world.

The rep. at Strasberg is saying that it isn’t difficult to get one of the faculty for private voice and to not worry, we don’t need to look into that right now. She felt there wasn’t a huge demand for outside voice.

racmom, what did she mean “there isn’t a huge demand for outside voice?” Is she (the rep) saying that most kids who want singing lessons don’t have to go outside Tisch to get them, because they can get one inside?

NMR - Actually what she said is that the teachers at Strasburg do private voice lessons if we wanted to pay. I guess (and I certainly can understand this) that people don’t want to pay extra money on top of the already expensive tuition.

racmom, I’ve been interested in contacting someone from Strasberg to learn more about the curriculum, the method, etc.
May I ask whom you contacted? I e-mailed the NYU Strasberg representative but she hasn’t responded yet
