I know that this subject has been talked about before, but I’m still iffy on what it means. I had my NYU audition today, and everyone there was for MT. I was asked by both the singing and acting auditors whether CAP21 is my first choice. I told them yes. I Told the acting auditor who I think is the big honcho, that CAP21 is my first choice but that I would be open to others. He wrote that down. I was told at the beginning that being open to others would not increase or decrease my chances of getting into CAP21. But, during the interview, we never discussed any of the other studios.
Is this a problem?

A problem how?

because he didn't discuss what other studios besides CAP21 I would be interested in

clay, I am no expert (just the parent of a kid at NYU/Tisch/CAP) but I don't think it's a problem, mainly because they know CAP is your top choice and that if they don't consider you a good candidate for CAP but do consider you a good fit for NYU/Tisch/Drama, they likely will evaluate you and offer you placement in the studio that they think is the best fit. As I have said previously on this list, I know several kids who spent a lot of time talking to auditors about which studio they wanted and got a different one altogether and found that the studio that the auditors chose was a fantastic fit. So please don't worry about it. And look on the positive side: maybe they didn't ask you which other studio you wanted because they thought CAP was the best fit for you! :)

Hey Clay - I mentioned on another post that in my D's ED MT audition at Tisch she was not asked in her interview about other studios nor were some others we know of who auditioned that day (in the ED auditions they filled out a form that included a box to check Yes or No if they would accept assignment to other studios). Yet she was assigned to another studio which she is happy with. So don't worry if you did not discuss this in your interview!

I had my drama artistic review yesterday and there was no such box indicating first or second choice studio, nor did the auditor mention my studio preference in the interview. Apparently, some people were asked, but they each had different auditors...i suppose it just depends on who you interview with. Either way, I don't really think that what you want to do has that much effect if they already have another studio in mind for you. Good luck!

I think the difference is that if your audition was for drama, all the studios but one focus on dramatic acting and if accepted, they will place you in one of them. But if you are doing the musical theatre audition, you are asked if you would consider a dramatic studio if you do not get into the CAP21 music theater studio as that is the single studio for music theater.

My daughter auditioned for Cap 21 and was not asked if she would consider an alternate studio.

Apparently, quite a few kids auditioning this year for either musical theater were not asked what alternate studios they might be interested in. I am sure it's not something to worry about.
