Studio Production at Purchase

Can anyone comment on the studio production major at Purchase? My son made the first cut and has a live audition this week. Can anyone comment on what he can expect? They said they are going to test his engineering and production skills. Also, can anyone compare The Hartt School's program in technology/production to SUNY Purchase?

The last two posts here reference Hartt http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/844626-dual-degree-music-engineering.html

I wasn’t aware Purchase had this option, and in reading the descriptions of the two, they appear very similar in scope and focus. I do know Hartt offers both an audition based BM and a non-audition engineering based BS more focused on acoustics and design. Son had a Hartt peer with a BM in the discipline who’s been out since '07 and has been gainfully employed in the industry (in NYC) I believe since.

Violadad - thank you for the info. My son auditioned at Hartt on Saturday on the upright bass, although his first instrument of choice is drums. On Thursday he auditions at Purchase. However, this “audition” takes place in the recording studio; they are tested on both engineering and production skills. He is self taught; we are not sure what to expect. He did have to submit a CD showcasing his recording skills, which made the first cut. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens and then compare the curriculum side by side
